New essay up on @sslackerrrrr site called Communication-A-Go-Go. Check it out. Mia will be selling some hard copies at slacker sundays! Very cool.

Spent the last two months doing costumes on a mooovie with a bunch of certified set crushers who made the potentially impossible pretty possible. We traveled to some of my new favorite places in America. From the blue house in Pennsylvania, to the windows screensaver grassy hills, caves and Taso’s renaissance fair in West Virginia, to castles in Albany, Lake George and outside of Philly and all of the winding open roads in between. I watched random people we convinced to be extras get sword training, worked with horses and their wranglers, took in the full moon rising over a sky of stars sitting in the back of the truck, watched as characters met their emotional demise, perfected putting an entire suit of armor on, played with blood, absolutely did not pet the various animals on set (sheep, wild goats, coolest patterned chicken I’ve ever seen, turkeys, horses, dogs, half wolf, grasshoppers) and bonded deeply with a crew full of favorites while drinking 1000 Walmart beers and activating at the brier patch to debrief our long days and the completely unpredictable weather that came with them. Most of this shoot was spent outside watching the seasons change and letting my roots grow out while I remembered all the reasons I love storytelling and trying to hold onto as many details as I could. I learned so much about filmmaking and storytelling through the lens of clothing, color, progression through journey and by getting to watch closely every department on set be very competent and talented and the hours in video village with Rose. I also learned a lot about storytelling by being awake early enough to experience some of the most beautiful sunrises I’ve ever seen in my life, by being in the sticks, shooting an AK47, and trust fall leaving New York to live with strangers. Thank you Lisa, Beccah, Monica, Sam, Calvin, Paulina, Nick, Nick, and also Nick. Twinkles and Sprinkles to The Kingdom of Rexmonte.
