Recently had the pleasure of spending a morning with horseman Newton “Yogi” Sheridan at his stable in central New Jersey. Yogi is harness racing’s reigning Amateur Driver of the Year and in addition to being an outstanding driver, trains a small stable of his own. Photographed here with Yogi are Heart Of Dixie (darker bay with the star on his face) and Shore Of Himself, who just might have enjoyed the attention of a camera :) Thank you Yogi!
Horse racing and the world lost a great this weekend with the passing of trainer Christophe Clement after a battle with cancer. Beyond his accomplishments as a trainer, one needed only to spend a little time around Christophe to know what a wonderful human being he was — someone with an immense love for his horses, family, and work, and who touched the lives of all around him in immeasurable ways.
The first frame here is of Christophe at Saratoga in August of last year, while being interviewed following Big Prankster’s win on the opening day of Travers Week. The photos that follow are of his final stakes winners — Far Bridge (#3) in the G2 Man o’ War, and Love Cervere (#4) in the inaugural “Take the A Train” — both ridden by Joel Rosario, earlier this month at Aqueduct.
Sending love to the Clement family and all those close to Christophe.
