The Crack into Sleep Is the Crack into Dreaming explores the fragile boundary between waking life and the dream world. Through minimalist imagery, I place subjects within the everyday, focusing on subtle details and quiet emotions that suggest something hidden beneath the surface. These cracks act as portals to the subconscious, where intimacy and distance exist in tension. Some images unfold through double exposure, layering fragments of memory and time, like brief flashes surfacing from within. The work traces a visual journey through the in-between, where past and present softly blur.

Out now An Anatomy of Fear by @alvaro_deprit Witty Books #108 An Anatomy of Fear takes its title from a 1961 cover of Time Magazine inspired by Munch’s The Scream, and explores the internal and external fears of a generation shaped by uncertainty and instability. Like Munch, the project reflects on the psychological effects of modern alienation and existential unease. At its core, the work investigates identity as a relational and evolving process, focusing on subjects—particularly adolescents—who exist in a state of transformation, suspended between what they are and what they might become. This tension between form and possibility runs throughout the project. Produced within an art high school in Italy, the work follows the parallel development of students and their sculptures from the beginning of the pandemic to 2025. The unfinished clay and plaster busts, often covered in plastic to preserve their malleability, appear as bodies in formation—fragile, uncertain, and in flux. Their surfaces, which both reveal and conceal, act as metaphors for an inner condition of becoming. In this suspended state, time seems to pause. Fear, rather than being paralyzing, becomes a generative force—an essential part of the creative process through which form, before fully emerging, confronts its own vulnerability and finds life within it. Out now The Dice Man by @mate.bartha Witty Book's #109 A visual investigation poised between psychogeographic drifting and genealogical research. The work is born from a fracture: the contrast between the Budapest of the artist's childhood—a "crystal city" of cold lights and precious memories—and the contemporary metropolis, chaotic and impenetrable. In 2023, Bartha undertook a year-long pilgrimage through the city's 23 districts, not as a mere observer, but as a player challenging time and space to reclaim his own identity. The publication was produced in a limited edition of 100 copies on the occasion of the exhibition “Metamorphosis” by FUTURES at EXPOSED, Torino Foto Festival, as a working fragment of the ongoing project titled The Dice Man. [Opening + Book Launch] We are delighted to invite you on April 9, from 3 PM to 8 PM, to the opening and book launch of The Dice Man by Máté Bartha. This event is part of the group exhibition Metamorphosis, featured within EXPOSED Torino Foto Festival. The Dice Man documents the author's attempt to reconcile the dreamlike, crystalline Budapest of their childhood with the chaotic and tangible reality of today’s metropolis. Through an exploration that blends personal memory, chance, and visual art, the artist seeks to rediscover the traces of their long-lost parents among the city’s alleys. The Dice Man is part of the widespread group exhibition Metamorphosis, co-curated by Giangavino Pazzola. Developed for the EXPOSED Torino Photo Festival, the exhibition brings together the work of six international artists selected by FUTURES Photography, the European platform for emerging photography and cultural partner of this project. Throwback in the Witty Catalogue. From Works for a Cosmic Feeling, by @f.barile , is a collection of photographic works that employ the tools of science and philosophy to explore what Romain Rolland (in a 1927 letter to Sigmund Freud) called "oceanic feeling" - referring to the feeling of being one with the universe. Following the Taoist principle of “valley spirit,” the works explore multiple trajectories in an attempt to behave as a complex system. The work presents itself as a flow of consciousness and an immersive journey into becoming and interconnectivity, incorporating the process of transformation over time as an integral part of the work itself. Thrilled to announce Exposed feat Witty Books Dummy Award 💫 Exposed feat Witty Books Dummy Award is an international competition aimed at selecting and publishing an unpublished photographic project in book form. The award is open to photographers and collectives who have developed a complete body of work and have already structured it into a final editorial layout, but which has not yet been officially published. From all submitted applications, the jury will select 20 finalist dummies, which will be presented in May as part of the @torino.photo.festival in Torino. Among these, the winning project will be edited and published by Witty Books, officially becoming part of its catalog. Get lost with me in the transparent sequence of my book “Something Was Missing Within” 😶‍🌫️🌟♾️😔 with @witty_books . For this section, and for the whole project, it’s was important to me, to break with the directness of photography. Through image alterations and paper I was able to open up a third layer of meaning — the visualization of an emotional world. From Passacör by @aaschuman published by Witty Books in 2025. . In the Mantuan dialect, passacör translates as “afternoon nap”. These photographs are intended to serve as visions from an intensely vivid dream, dreamt beneath the hazy sunshine just south of the River Po. Fed by fleeting memories of a rambling road-trip with local friends – which wound its way through the towns and villages and fields and floodplains of their beloved Oltrepò Mantovano – it is now difficult for me to decipher whether they are figments of a real world or one that was imagined. Yet together they reflect a profoundly true experience of a unique and special place that I found to be both meaningful and magical, and quietly hint at the lives, stories, histories, tales and traditions that are deeply embedded within this remarkable region, as well as those which more widely reside within our shared and collective unconscious. . #artbooks #photobook #photography
