Over the years I have spent many days on various types of shoots as a subject in the outdoor industry. During this time I organically slotted myself into the role of location scouting or at least helping on that front. This winter I decided to turn the idea into a project of my own over at @withinreach.scouting .
My goal is help producers, photographers, videographers, and other creative minds find locations that meet the needs of their project. The Sea To Sky corridor has become a real hotspot when it comes to shooting and for good reason. However, over the years I’ve noticed many locations being used repeatedly. I have learned that it is important to stand out in this industry and finding a unique but cost effective, and efficiently accessible location is a step in the right direction.
Let’s work together this year on your next production on the Coast Mountains. Big or small, shoot me a message over at @withinreach.scouting
Thank you to everyone who has helped me get this project off the ground.

Often filming or shooting photos in the Sea To Sky requires bumpy rides along steep forest service roads to access alpine terrain. A complex intertwined network of active logging roads, semi-deactivated logging roads, and fully deactivated logging roads describes the Sea To Sky well.
Working together with someone who has the resources and understanding to explain the status, directions, and conditions of these roads can save you and your crew loads of time. Preventing a long drive to a dead end, overgrown road, or a road with active hauling. Be safe and prepared before your next shoot in the Coast Mountains!
Glimpses through the lens of @michaeloverbeck while shooting for Arc’teryx last October.
A Spring-line shoot in October requires some creativity. This time of year consistently delivers challenges to film makers and photographers in the Coast Mountains. Snow, dramatic weather, and limited daylight hours mean finding a suitable location with efficient logistics is key to success.
On this particular shoot we needed to find a reasonably dry climate without losing the impressive nature of the Coast Range. Also — with an efficient approach due to the amount of camera gear required to nail the shot-list.
During my research one area caught my eye from previous exploration. Located in a rain shadow with a well maintained FSR straight to 1800m, runnable terrain, and impressive peaks as our backdrop. We couldn’t pass it up.
Is the weather throwing you curveballs? Let’s get to the bottom of it. A little creativity and straying off the beaten path goes a long ways when it comes Fall shoots.

Within Reach Location Scouting is based out of Squamish, BC. Our general focus is on the immense Coast Mountain Range. With particularly deep knowledge of the Sea To Sky Region and South Coast Ranges.
Stretching nearly 1600 KM from Alaska to Vancouver, the Coast Mountains form what is arguably one of the most remote and impressive chains of continuous mountains on the planet. Deep glacier scouring over many millennia has carved steep fjords, granite plains, and jagged summits. Below the alpine tundra lies countless swaths of biodiverse old-growth forests and rivers—the beating heart of the BC’s terrestrial coastline.
Perhaps the ideal location for your next shoot?
Who is behind Within Reach?
Jessie is a professional athlete for @arcteryx , Location Scout, photographer, and writer. For the past twenty years, Jessie has explored the trails, high alpine, and old-growth forests of BC’s Coast Mountains. Whether the goal is moving through technical terrain in Fast and Light Style, Steep Skiing, or Rock Climbing, Jessie feels at home in the wilderness.
Adventure photography has been a creative focus for Jessie since his teens—a way to tell stories shaped by his surroundings in the outdoors. Over the past 5 years Jessie played a significant as a subject and location scout scout in a range of professional photo and film productions.
At the end of the day, Jessie enjoys nothing more than exploring lesser-known swaths of wilderness. His end goal is to bring your ideas to life by matching your creative vision with the right location.
