In ’92, I ditched school to skate the vert ramp—Goodtimes/Witt’s Funhouse Ramps—tucked inside my parents’ warehouse in Winona, MN. Landed the elusive fakie 360 crail to tail grab varial that day.
Named it the “Crail Mary”—because getting the rotation from crail to tail grab above the coping on standard 11’ ramps was a struggle. Not the hardest trick ever, but definitely not the easiest either.
The only footage of it ended up in the #GoodtimesSkateboards promo video, and that was that.
At the time, contests were shifting—flip tricks were taking over, and you had to get creative to stand out. The NSA (National Amateur contest series) days and early 90’s Vans Am World Championships series were much less political than today and more about innovation, power and originality, so for me, crail variations were a way to carve out a decent placing if I got lucky.
Fast forward almost 30 years, and in 2021, @andymac720 stumbled upon the trick during a crail kick—another respectable man of crail.
Then in 2024, Andy challenged @jdsanchez___ to a Crail Mary, and of course he also rolled away with one.
Stoked to see the trick resurface and get taken to another level by the super pros.
