Some pieces come together in a way that feels different from the very beginning.
This one started as an experiment.
I was playing around with burning trees into wood, layering paint into the grain, adding wire into the composition, and seeing where the process would take me. I didn’t really have a perfect plan for it… just an idea and a feeling I wanted to follow.
As it evolved, I started incorporating reclaimed wood, driftwood, and different textures until the whole piece finally felt grounded and complete.
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that every piece seems to carry a certain energy with it.
When I brought this one to the show, this gentleman came into my booth very early before the crowds had really started coming through. He spent a long time quietly walking around and taking in all the work, and then he immediately connected with this piece.
Those moments always stay with me.
It’s hard to explain, but sometimes it really does feel like certain pieces are meant for certain people.
That connection between creativity, story, emotion, and the person who eventually brings the piece home… that’s one of the most meaningful parts of this entire journey for me.
