Chapel of Bones in Évora, Portugal. Such a fascinating space. “The Capela dos Ossos is located in the Church of São Francisco. It was built in the 17th century at the initiative of three Franciscan monks, so that locals could reflect on the transience of life and to get a clear allegory of death.
More than five thousand bones and skulls adorn its walls, ceiling and columns of this chapel, all sourced from the city’s cemeteries.”

I have a friend who lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is intelligent, funny, and makes amazing omelettes. We haven’t seen each other in many years but the friendship endures. This dystopian, Orwellian, Nazi ICE bullshit is right at his door, and I’m sharing his experiences because I will continue to speak out - I know better, I spent a year in Germany as an exchange student and felt the chilling pall of evil that still lingers in the concentration camps. We all should know better. We hear enough about all the atrocities that we, the human species, continue to commit when we should be supporting each other.
My friend is ok, but Alex Pretti was shot less than two miles away. He has seen ICE rolling around his neighborhood and hears a chorus of whistles that warn of ICE’s presence. He tells me that things are far worse than what’s being reported because not every incident, every kidnapping, every trauma gets reported. ICE is gassing children and attacking schools. They are raiding hospitals. They lie in wait for church services to let out. In fact, one of the pastors is a regional director for ICE. That’s just beautiful. But my friend protests, goes to vigils, and afterwards it takes a few hours for his feet to warm up, but he’s been to colder hockey practices. The resistance to ICE is there, and it’s going hard. ICE gets followed around, and they have to struggle and fight to carry out their atrocities. The people of Minneapolis find strength, healing, and solace in the communities they are building. He also has this to say: “We are a country of wolves that can’t be tamed once enraged. Be difficult. Tell people.” So, I am honoring my friend. FUCK ICE. This is for the people of Minneapolis and the rest of the states and the world. FUCK ICE. This is for me, because there is power in naming and sharing what’s in your heart. FUCK ICE.
EDIT: WORKSHOP HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL SPRINGTIME I’m teaching a B&W 35mm film photography workshop at @wonderdocent in Nevada City on Oct 18th & Nov 1st (link in bio!) and because I’m so excited for the class, I thought I’d share my current stash of unexposed film. #filmphotography #filmphotographer #filmisnotdead #shootfilm #shootfilmnotbullets
EDIT 10/11/25: WORKSHOP HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL SPRINGTIME. Shooting film made me a better photographer. Film is slower, more deliberate, and full of magic. I’m teaching a 35mm B&W film photography workshop at @wonderdocent on October 18th and November 1st! The link to sign up is in my bio! Swipe to see two shots from when I was learning to shoot B&W film.
I used 35mm film boxes to make these Japanese Robots! First I used the cyanotype process to create the blue metal/mesh texture. Then made a printing plate from cardboard, thumbtacks, and mat board to print the faces and red stripe details. They’re all for sale at @wonderdocent !
Tonight I’ll be presenting about the Cyanotype process for the Nevada County Camera Club @nccameraclub ! 6pm at Unity in the Gold Country Spiritual Center 180 Cambridge Ct, Grass Valley.
5 month solargraph exposure of Mill St. skyline taken from a rooftop. The Solargraph process uses a pinhole camera loaded with B&W darkroom paper- exposures can range from a single day to several years. These long exposures record the scene and each day it also records the path of the sun as a streak of light. Different papers yield different results: there are variations in color and detail. This paper does not record the light streaks in clear detail, instead gives thicker, more abstract lines.
