Will had some different ideas for our set originally. Sadly, this plan was abandoned. But the Mystic Museum was kind enough to keep his work and pass it off as the real McCoy.

1st wedding anniversary, but following our traditional dating anniversary tradition of eating cheap hot dogs and playing MarioKart. Feels like a Michelin star experience. I must gently call out @genevieve__kingston for being the actual best—as most of you know without any testimony from me. It’s been a year of deep personal loss and… well, words fail in terms of how she has anchored me. I look forward to using the rest of my life to find the words. Here’s to Gwen.

Happy Paperback Day to this very, very clever person. So many cool things from the last year—a NYTimes Editor’s Choice, a million rave reviews, a delightful book tour. But the coolest thing has been the individuals who’ve reached out and said how this memoir has made them look at life differently, or helped them reconnect with a loved one. I’ve personally made new friendships and had friendships deepen out of Gwen’s words. Grateful to her for that, grateful to her for her artistry, grateful to all who have read.

My father, James--known to most as Bubba--passed away on Sunday morning. I am sad on the deepest level of sad, but far more so I am grateful to, and for, my dad. He was a gentle and decent man. Those may seem like unassuming words, but, embodied the way my dad embodied them, they mean a whole heck of a lot to me. He had a mischievous goofy streak too, which I will miss most. He loved me, and I always, always felt it. He made it to my wedding. He'd been beat up all to hell by a brutal round of chemo, but for months he would get on his incline treadmill and walk, sometimes multiple sessions a day, from less than a quarter mile to a half mile to two miles at a stretch, to build up his strength so he could be there as fully as he could. That was my dad. He had a request: in lieu of flowers, or donations to a particular charity, he asked simply that people give some of their time to somebody in need. Doesn't matter if it's a shift at a nonprofit or helping a neighbor move a piece of furniture. Doesn't matter if it's a week or five minutes. Get out into your community, find someone, help them. For Bubba. His memorial service will be at 11AM on November 5th, at Hyde Park United Methodist Church in Tampa.

Gwen’s book is out today. Watching her write over the past several years has been a true privilege. I’m so excited to see it enter the world. But we were particularly excited to go and see it at Books Are Magic, our neighborhood book store since we arrived in NYC together. The small personal moments like this are what’s important amidst all the fanfare. Did I Ever Tell You? Read it, and fall in love with Gwen just like I have.
