In the fourth episode of COAT Tales, we headed to the Cornish coast to meet @willnockstudio , who makes beautiful objects for a living. We spent the day immersed in his world of oak, light, and texture. From the rhythms of his workshop to the subtle variations in each piece, he shows how place, process, and instinct shape work that feels grounded, tactile, and full of character. Head to coatpaints.com to explore all things Will Nock Studio. DOP: @max.budny Art Director: @abigailmoody_ Comment 🌳 to bring Will’s palette into your space

Our website is now live! Since launching in 2021, it’s been a busy period designing and refining the pieces we offer. I’m thrilled that we are now ready to launch our website which contains what is currently our core collection for the Arvor and Mawnan ranges. We’ve also included additional information about us and answered any questions you might have….link in bio!

Meet the new Dining Table, the first of five design to launch on my website each Sunday of May, to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the studio! The centrepiece of a home, whether celebrating, entertaining or having a quiet morning coffee, the Mawnan Dining Table is at the heart of it all for decades to come. Made from solid oak, it has a hand-built feel, where attention to detail is evident from the exposed joinery, tactile carved edges and a rippled surface that catches the light as it moves throughout the day. Available in three sizes for 4,6 or 8 people

The first iteration of the Mawnan Bench. Itʼs been 5 years since I started this venture, doesnʼt feel like it but Iʼve learnt a lot, made plenty of mistakes and had a handful of amazing partnerships and collaborations to be proud of. Thereʼs a lot going on next month for my fifth anniversary (excited to share some new designs) but just want to thank all of you for following along, offering encouragement and making it possible for me to do the thing I love. As a thank you, Iʼm going to be sending out a discount code for everything on the website. This is exclusively for my mailing list and will only last 12 hours during the day on Wednesday 29th. If youʼre not subscribed you can do so via my website or dm me with your email.

Days in the workshop lately have looked a lot like this. Head down, focused on making. Iʼve got a few new things in the works, peices that are stretching my capabilties a bit. Trying to keep working in that sweet spot between being in my comfort zone and being out of my depth. Thanks to @max.budny for the shot 📸

Maybe a bit premature to put away the winter hats and thermals but these last few days are making me feel optimistic.. ☀️

In a world that feels increasingly turbulent, fast-paced & digital, time in the workshop feels like a quiet luxury and the perfect antidote. Yes, I too strive for efficiency in my work, but not at the cost of quality or design. In fact, almost everything I do could be done faster, cheaper. Iʼd probably earn more money, have more free time, so why not? Honestly, itʼs mostly pride. I take pride in everything I make, it represents me, my best effort, a culmination of everything Iʼve learnt from others and figured out for myself. Perhaps unhealthy to have my self-worth determined by what I can make out of wood. Iʼd argue - still better than it depending on my bank balance.. Thanks to @max.budny & @coatpaints for the image!

The new Breakfast Table Set. Four-person dining table in solid oak, with a matching narrow bench and set of stools. I’d keep these for myself if I could, it’s one of those designs that I’ve had in my head for ages, then manifesting it in reality was so satisfying, it will surely be bittersweet when it finds a new home. Any other creative business people ever get that?? Fortunately I can still see this every time I walk through Falmouth as it’s on display and available at @morgansfalmouth . Bench and stools available individually or as a set. Online release soon, mailing list get first look. Thinking bigger? Six or eight people? Get in touch. No screws - no fixings - no take backs. Assembling hand cut joinery with glue can all go wrong. As soon as the glue touches the wood, the ticking timer starts, if it all goes well you end up with super strong joinery but with only a few minutes to get it right before the glue sets, there won’t be a second chance. #madeincornwall #mindfulmaking #wabisabi #oak #handmade
