Meet First Assistant Director, Will Chen
Will is on board to keep the Plov clockwork running. A Hong Kong-born writer, director and AD based in London, Will graduated from the London Film School with a focus on identity, relationships and realism.
During the pandemic, he shot his debut film in Spain (a documentary about Chinese immigrants living there) which earned nominations at several Spanish film festivals and was picked up by FILMIN, the cinephile streamer.
Combining his storyteller’s instinct and logistical eye, we’re excited to work with such a great AD.

Like many Hong Kongers who have moved to the UK, I think that there are many things we don’t know how to express about the complicated feelings of moving. Not even in our own language.
Film became a way for me to be honest in my expression. Like Chloe Zhao said in an interview recently: “Language is beautiful but sometimes it separates us because we don‘t understand it. But a smile is a smile, and a touch is a touch.”
This film is a way of reminding me where I came from, while trying to understand where I am now.
與很多移居到英國的香港人一樣，我感覺到有很多感受其實連用自己的語言都不能夠說清。而電影成了能令我誠實地剖析自己並去表達的一種方式。
我記得最近趙婷導演在一篇訪問說了一句極美的話： 「語言很美妙，但有時它會把我們分化，因為我們不完全理解它。但一個微笑就是一個微笑，一個觸摸就是一個觸摸。」
這部電影對我來說，就是一種提醒自己我來自哪裏，同時亦嘗試理解自己在現階段所身處的處境。
