Admin Reveal… One of the perks of being an artist is that you have artist friends. One of the perks of not being a “painter’s painter” is that many of my best artist friends work in photo and video, with images. One of the greatest gifts is that one of those nearest and dearest to me is @elleperex —known affectionately as Tix L’elle to my children. When it became apparent that I needed to update my decade-old headshot, Elle worked their alchemical magic on a moment’s notice at their studio in the Bronx. Every once in a while they’d say, “that looks like you” (versus cretin me thinking of portraits in terms of good or bad, flattering or unflattering), which is a perfect incapsulation of, as @horaceballard observed, Elle’s “insistence on intimacy”, which made a deeply self-conscious process feel just like hanging out with one of my best friends, since it was. Watching Elle work is mesmerizing. Even more so when you’re lucky enough to be on the other side of the lens.
Super happy and touched that these two large watercolors that I painted of the super harvest moon I witnessed in September 2024 while in residence at @chinatifoundation have entered the permanent collection of the @blantonmuseum — an institution near and dear to my heart.
Thank you @keijserskoning for believing these were more than the informal little studies I saw them as and putting them out in the world at the Dallas Art Fair last year.

The earth has finally thawed enough to place wee Scout’s micro-monument, just above where her tiny body nourishes a baby ginkgo tree we see from the kitchen. :]
