There environment was a character as much as the people, so I used closeups very sparingly. The handful of times when they happened, they needed to make an impact.

A memory. A ghost. In my life, I’ve realized in retrospect how certain moments or people exist more in a sort of “silhouette” in my mind. I wanted to capture that feeling in this film.

Bleak. Simple. Restrained. I wanted to do as little as possible with the camera, so all the focus would on the actors. This one is close to my heart.

Feature film shot on @arri Alexa XT and @sigmacine Zooms. We moved lightning fast on this one, and it ended up being a really fun exercise in making bold decisions to pay off quickly.

The Thorn
We moved so fast on these setups because we had so much material to get through each day. My team and I developed very efficient plans for our approach to every lighting scenario, so that we were never left experimenting until it looked good. We had a methodology that would get us to the visual language we wanted in every setup, and get us there quickly.
