'Dissolution' by William Farr has come to a close.
This was one for the books; transforming our space into an almost sacred colorfield universe. Thank you to everyone who visited, engaged with the work, and spent time in the space.
And thank you William for trusting us with your work, on to the next...
Last chance to visit William Farr's solo exhibition Dissolution in the gallery, on view until May 3, 2026.
Farr’s practice investigates painting as a site of inward attention, perceptual suspension, and the gradual release of fixed forms of subjectivity. Drawing on the Romantic sublime and the legacy of Colour Field painting, his work proposes painting as a contemplative threshold: an ‘empty place’ in which discipline and intuition, control and surrender, coexist. The immersive quality of the paintings invites sustained looking, asking the viewer to remain with uncertainty and slowness, and to encounter perception itself as a temporal, embodied act.

William Farr’s solo exhibition ’Dissolution’ will be on view for another 3 weeks at Homecoming Gallery, Amsterdam.
“In Dissolution, there is a rupture of a sacred partnership. The dissonance between the intensity and clarity of passion evidenced by Farr’s being and the attempted disappearance act within the work. The concept of ego death framed as a return to connection or coupling to something other. Regardless there is an active aliveness in the paintings’ chromatic resolution.” - Merlin Massara

“It was initially how William seems to marry both a classic and a highly contemporary hand in his paintings that got us intrigued. When we met in his studio -talked books, life, Vipassana- we got to experience the unique energy his works carry: somehow powerful and full of life, and serene and calm in equal measure.
It’s his process of showing up for the work, as he calls it -bringing as much presence as possible in order for a real dialogue to happen. This is also the reason why we brought the great great-grandmother’s chair he uses in his studio to our exhibit in Amsterdam. It’s about sitting with the work, breaking with preconceived notions, allowing a dialogue to happen, letting the agency shift from the material to the man.
His feeling for colour is like no other -the fine subtlety of the thinned oil layers, the variety of pigments, compositions that are sometimes overwhelming and at other times guiding you quietly across the linen. Each piece offers its own narrative, one that changes with the light of the day.”

brave one presents, ‘Attachment 9’, by artist, William Farr.
Built through layered oil on canvas, the painting unfolds as a restrained field of tension where translucency, density and erasure remain in quiet negotiation. White emerges as threshold rather than highlight, a space between holding and letting go, fastening and release. Surfaces hover between control and collapse, asking for sustained attention rather than quick interpretation.
brave one is an online viewing room dedicated to a single artwork for one month, allowing the work to be viewed without distraction.
