Join us in welcoming Will Dickson to Side Street Studio! Will lives on Vancouver Island and first discovered pottery back in late 2019 at University and was soon completely hooked on the process. He finds it remarkable how a simple ball of mud from the earth can be shaped in a beautiful, functional piece of art that will last for decades. Will started selling his work in small batches during the fall of 2021 with the dream of one day having a studio of his own. The dream came true in the summer of 2023 when he moved to Campbell River with his partner and aquired his first kiln! Each piece is thoughtfully crafted by hand on the wheel, blending clean forms with durability, so they can be used, enjoyed, and lived with daily. All of Will’s pottery is microwavee and dishwasher safe. #pottery #ceramics #handmade #local #bcartist @shoplocalcanadaca@oakbay.tourism@oakbayliving@tourismvictoriabc@tourismvancouverisland
All the steps involved in my plate trimming process. Plates are pretty quick and easy to throw on the wheel, but the trimming stage takes about 3 times as long for me!
Handmade plates are often pretty thick/heavy so I try and trim mine relatively thin while still being durable so it’s not a pain to load/unload a whole set of 8 in the dishwasher. I trim off roughly 1/3 of the original weight & I like to carve a foot on the bottom as well to make them look nice and sharp :)

Excited to be part of the @campbellriverfarmersmarket again for the 3rd consecutive year, you can find my booth most Sundays from the 2nd week in May through end of September. Grateful to be part of such an amazing and welcoming community here!
Never too many shelves! Love these ones because I can pickup a whole board full of pottery and move them around the studio easily. Yehaw! #pottery #handmade #potterystudio #campbellriver
Some friends came over on Saturday to give pottery a go!! It was a fun evening of lots of laughs, beer drinking & playing with mud. Would do it again!! Shoutout to the friends for being keen :)
Throwing a mug on the wheel blindfolded - turned out better than I thought it would! Good exercise in special awareness, hardest part was finding my damn tools 😅 #pottery
