Best advice I’ve ever had. 2 years ago, after finishing my first half-marathon on the trails, I got chatting to an ultra-marathon runner. Completely amazed and clueless I asked: ‘How on earth does anyone run that far?’ To which they answered: ‘Dude, anyone can do it, it’s just one long picnic’. Little did I understand the importance of this statement back then but it has stuck with me through all my training since. It did a few things for me: 1️⃣ Remind me that, truly, you are much more capable than you think you are, with the right mindset 2️⃣ (and more importantly) how vital the correct nutrition is in getting you through ultra distances. Eating, or ‘picnicking’, has been a core focus to my training and running (thanks also to @lewis_robling ). It’s what got me through 9 hours and 3k of elevation in HK with energy to spare. @styrkr.uk , @tenzing , and dates with peanut butter all the way ⚡️ (who knew there were different varieties of dates?!) #nutrition #trailrunning #training #ultra
