Now that I’m an Old Head lol
Most of the kids today just know me as Coach Blackmon or Jade and Ryder’s dad, but very few know my football story.
But during my journey, all I did was compete and earn it. Nothing was fair, nothing was given, nothing was easy.
I was born and raised in Rhode Island.
The smallest state. No advantage and limited resources.
My mother passed away when I was 6 years old. My father worked countless hours to take care of my siblings and grandma. Something 3 shifts.
Growing up I just loved competing and playing football. I had dreams of playing in the NFL but thought it was impossible. But that didn’t stop me from battling every-time I had a chance to.
Big time colleges did not flood our state to recruit, why would they?
So what we did was we went to college high school camps, put on a show and made them come to us.
Everything was earned.
Today I am trying to let these kids know that if you want to make it big time it is going to be insanely challenging because over 1 million athletes are trying to do the same. About 7% play college and about 0.02% actually make it to the NFL. Impossible yes possible.
It requires sacrifice, listening, discipline and don’t be afraid of competition.
Go earn it every time you get a chance to, and when you do watch what happens.
Stop being afraid.
Eventually you will find out that when something becomes challenging, that’s when the fun begins.
My heart is pure when it comes to this coaching and mentoring stuff. I’m here to serve. That’s it.

We visited Notre Dame today. It really is a special place. It is important for him to get around places like this and really feel the vibe.
It’s a blessing for him to be able to do things like this and I am super proud of him. He is fully invested in the earn it business.
I just want him to enjoy this.

One of the Greatest Traditions in all of sports is the Packers Training Camp bike ride.
Almost 20 years later I was able to connect in person with Jarod who was my kid while I was a Packer.
Jarod Zirbel played hockey for the Badgers and is now Married.
I feel so old lol.
Back in Green Bay. Draft weekend. Full circle… oh and Coach Lombardi lol
Just a reminder that it is draft weekend.
This city changed my life, hearing my name called, walking into Lambeau for the first time… moments you never forget.
Now I’m back, standing near Lambeau Field, with a different kind of moment to appreciate.
