Dismantle: Deconstructing Genres
Most artists build their name within a single genre and end up tied to that sound. But when you hear the name Dismantle, what comes to mind? Dubstep? House? Jungle? Maybe even jazz?
@will_dismantle is one of those rare artists who refuses to be boxed in. His breakthrough came with āComputationā, released on N Typeās Wheel & Deal Records when he was just 18. The track instantly put him on the map, earning international DJ bookings and heavy support from Skream & Benga, Annie Mac and Zane Lowe. On the surface it was a dubstep anthem, but even then it was bending the rules, its dutch house-inspired 4x4 rhythm blurring the lines of what ādubstepā could be.
Follow-up releases on labels like Shy FXās Digital Soundboy only underlined his range. Drum and bass was actually his first step into electronic music, so it was natural for him to circle back to the genre, first with DJ Die as DieMantle, then later as part of Watch The Ride alongside Die and the late, great Randall, producing dancefloor heaters with the likes of D Double E & Nia Archives.
Unlike many artists who create new aliases for every experiment, Dismantle largely kept his name front and center. The exception was Nuff Pedals, born from his obsession with West Londonās broken beat sound. After discovering it in the early 2010s, he threw himself into learning keys and music theory, practicing daily from 2015 until he was ready to release a full album in 2020.
Now, after years of collaborations and deep dives into different sounds, Dismantle is stepping into a new chapter as a solo artist. His āReflections EPā on Warehouse Project Records feels like the culmination of years spent honing his craft, moving seamlessly between heavy low-end pressure and soaring euphoric highs, kicked off with the first single, āBleek,ā a demo left sitting on his computer since 2021.
With Dismantle tracks soundtracking festivals all summer, including āJunk,ā championed by Ben UFO, this release signals the start of something wide open. The only question now is which boundaries Dismantle will choose to break next.
