“We dug deep for epic period locations in Australia and found some gems. Early on, we discovered this quirky little historic village so we built much of the script around it. The biggest challenge was making the boxing sequences feel like they were set inside a heaving 1920s stadium with limited extras. We designed our lighting and coverage to match an archival wide shot from the 40s, and when combined in the edit, it really came alive. We shot at low light levels and high ISOs, layering contrast and lighting for black and white. When we sat down with the Cook family, it became clear this wasn’t just a brand story, it was their family story. To do Pop’s story justice, we had to go all in and shoot a full-blown 1920s period piece. It was a wild ride over five big days, and this epic is really a result of a team of dedicated artists. Incredibly stoked our strange little western has been be chosen to open St Kilda Film Festival 2025 next week. Will and I couldn’t get up to SXSW Sydney last year, so we cannot bloody wait to see this on the big screen for the first time, with a packed-out crowd at the Palais no less! Might even dust off the rhinestone suits for the red carpet 🤠 I think there’s still some tickets left. Western wear encouraged! Incredibly excited for the premiere screening of ‘Bloom’ as part of @deepseesurvey ’s opening season of shows in 2024. ‘Bloom’ is a poetic documentary that interweaves portraits of four diverse local storytellers and wisdom wielders. Through their personal experiences and reflections, the film offers a new, hopeful vision for masculinity that aims to regenerate ourselves, our communities, and our planet. Hosted in the historic Old Shoreham School (now Shoreham Community Hall), the evening will also feature a diverse range of immersive live experiences from each of the four subjects featured in the film, including: • A live soundtrack performance by Dingo Spender. • A guided movement practice by Jan Dwipa.
