My grandma, Jean Shutt, passed away early Thursday morning. So much of her I see in myself. Her drive and ambition, her pursuit of being a Jack-of-All-Trades creatively, her ability to bring people together. The Shutt house was home for so many people for so many reasons. There was comfort and joy in the parties she threw. There was safety there when I was young. My grandma made community wherever she went, and she passed that skill down to my mother, who passed that skill down to me.
When I was young, I soaked up the knowledge she had like a sponge. I admired her ability to keep going and her commitment to giving me new experiences as I grew up in Terre Haute. The last photo is us on a trip to Chicago to see A Christmas Carol at the Goodman. I think about that trip a lot compared to where I am now, and Iām reminded how thankful I am to have grown up surrounded by such supportive, creative people at home. I have my familyās love for theater and the arts, but I feel grateful to have my grandmaās mind for it as well.
Iām so excited to reveal my friends who are lending their voices for our show on April 16th!
