Originally from Ann Arbor, MI, Will Brighton graduated summa cum laude from Western Michigan University with a B.F.A. in Dance and a B.A. in English. While at WMU, he performed works by Yin Yue, Christian Denice, BAIRA, George Balanchine, Paul Taylor, Antony Tudor, and others, and also had the privilege of performing alongside Peridance Contemporary Dance Company. After graduating, Will moved to Saint Louis and is now in his sixth season with Saint Louis Dance Theatre, where he has performed in works by Jiří Kylián, Sidra Bell, Omar Román de Jesús, Norbert de la Cruz III, Brian Enos, Joshua Peugh, and many more. He has also appeared as a guest artist with Saint Louis Ballet and MADCO. Will was recognized as an Emerging Choreographer by Young Dancers Initiative in 2020 and by Eisenhower Dance Detroit’s NewDANCEfest in 2021. His choreography has been commissioned by Space Station Dance Residency and Resilience Dance Company and presented at RADFest, MADCO’s Dare to Dance Festival, The Big Muddy Dance Fest, and the Saint Louis Contemporary Dance Festival.

Meet the Dancer: ✨Will Brighton✨
Will Brighton is the kind of artist who believes in removing expectations. That might sound counterintuitive for a professional dancer, but for Will — now in his sixth season with Saint Louis Dance Theatre — it’s the secret to staying present, authentic and genuinely alive on stage.
His favorite approach to movement? Countertechnique, a practice that emphasizes efficiency and expansiveness. “I love how freeing it feels to fly through space,” he explains. Before every class, rehearsal and performance, Will pulls a couple tools from his Countertechnique toolbox to focus on.

This weekend, Resilience Dance Company presents: “Instead of waiting, they weave”
Performances are Friday 4/11, Saturday 4/12, and Sunday 4/13 at 7:30pm at @intersectartscenter
“Instead of waiting, they weave” is an abstract retelling of the kidnap of Persephone. The work explores how humanity understands and copes with cyclical periods of darkness through the lens of a Greek myth.
The performance will open with a world premier by Will Brighton entitled “Horse Girl” @will.ard
