This print takes A LOT of time. I take the image, create a negative, cut paper, coat paper, make a stencil, line up the negative and stencil JUST right, expose, rinse multiple times, dry, size, then gild with real copper. Phew! Itās a multi-day process. Luckily I donāt have to re-make the negative every time! š
Iāll have ONE of these with me at the Makers Market on Saturday. š
Another ecological piece Iām really happy with. Opuntia (prickly pear) cactus inside the silhouette of a coyote.ā£
ā£
Coyotes are opportunistic feeders, on both plants and animals. They have even been known to consume prickly pear fruit!ā£

Shrubby deer vetch inside a Gambel's quail silhouette. ā£ā£

I wanted to portray ecological connections in my work, and I wracked my brain for ways to accomplish it. This is one of the results. I hand cut a mask of a quail and then exposed a negative underneath. The result is a plant that quail feed on within the silhouette of their body. You are what you eat. šā£

This was a big week! Multiple maker spaces from across the country that held āBird Timesā of their own mailed in their flocks to join the cranes I have at the studio. I am so touched by the people who saw this project and decided to use it to build community where they live.
864/1,000 cranes, each one made with the wish for a world where trans folks are loved fully as themselves. Weāre getting so close to our stained glass senbazuru

Realizing I never shared this āCreosote Monsoonā that was up @phxzinefest in @tempeartandmusic this year!
This piece represents a monsoon storm with swirling winds, rain drops, and a little cloud on the top right. āļø
The plant I used is a big part of why desert rain smells the way it does: creosote bush (Larrea tridentata).šæ
I love the way the water and chemistry interacted in this one! The splotches are so perfect, like some sort of nebula.š
Desert lavender (Condea emoryi)
Desert senna blues. š
Iāve been playing with double exposures lately and really liking the outcomes. This is one of my favorite pieces I made recently, with three stems of desert senna.
This piece kind of made me want to make wallpaper. š Something about the patternā¦
