We need your help. Over the past week, the Rio Gregório Indigenous Territory has been struck by a severe and unseasonal flood.
All 18 villages along the Gregório River have been affected. This is the reality on the ground: homes surrounded by water, families navigating by canoe, animals displaced, and essential infrastructure being lost.
This event is completely outside the expected pattern for this time of year.
Traditionally, April marks the beginning of the Amazonian summer, when rains decrease. However, in 2026, they are facing the opposite: an intense flood, with the force of the Amazonian winter.
The impacts are severe and widespread:
- Loss of crops and cultivated fields
- Destruction of livestock
- Damage to and loss of homes and community structures
- Loss of boats, engines, and transportation
- Damage to solar energy systems
- Compromised sanitation and basic infrastructure
- Direct impact on food security
The situation once again shows the climate change is not a distant threat - it is happening now. And Indigenous Peoples are among those most affected.
“We urgently call for support and solidarity from governments, NGOs, private sector partners and individuals. We need immediate support.” - Chief Tashka Yawanawá and Laura Yawanawá
To support our colleagues coordinating emergency response and distribution of aid to the affected villages, donate at the link in bio. All proceeds will go directly to the Yawanawá community.

“It all comes down to Earth.”
She is healing but she still needs us. 🌍
Healing takes time. Protection takes action. And the future depends on what we choose to do now.
Today, on Earth Day, we’re reminded that caring for this planet isn’t passive, it’s a responsibility we all share.
Let this be a moment to reflect, and a call to protect what remains.

Today marks Sámi National Day – February 6th – commemorating the first time Sámi people gathered across colonial borders in 1917 to collectively advocate for Sámi rights. Over a century later, the work continues against the ongoing natural resource exploitation in Sápmi where, too often, Indigenous voices are sidelined in decision-making.
For thousands of years, we’ve stewarded these boreal landscapes that hold our identity. Today we honor that continuity by giving thanks to the elders who carried knowledge through the hardest times, the reindeer maintaining our living culture, the youth shaping a just future and reclaiming what was nearly lost, the allies who show up when it matters, and the land itself who continues to teach us.
We are still here. We are still Sámi. We are still connected to these lands.
That is worth celebrating.
How are you supporting Sámi rights and land protection today?
Lihkku Sámi álbmot beivviin / Happy Sámi National Day 💙❤️💛💚
🌅As 2025 comes to a close, we’re carrying real momentum forward. Together, we supported Indigenous-led conservation with the Yawanawá, launched WILD Sápmi to defend northern forests, strengthened CoalitionWILD leaders, and advanced bold policy at the global level.
Looking ahead to 2026, this progress does not sustain itself. It continues because people like you choose to stand with the communities, ecosystems, and leaders shaping a just future for nature.

In 2025, WILD and our partners trained 18 Yawanawá rangers in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon to patrol, strengthen, and defend their biodiversity and territory.
Thank you for your help in protecting wild places across the globe; these wins for the planet wouldn’t happen without you!
