It’s an honor and a privilege to have taken part in this season’s @florists_review “Best in Blooms” competition alongside such phenomenal, artistic designers in the industry. I cried and dang near rolled off the couch when I received the news. What a treat to work with these juicyyy American-grown flowers and foliage. I can’t thank the hardworking farmers enough for this bountiful harvest, and @florists_review @americangrownflowers for the opportunity. My intention for this tablescape design was to capture the warm, playful, delicious summer energy on Long Island, and to evoke feelings of love and community. I was invigorated by the colorful, unique assortment of florals and foliage that our generous flower farmers sent us. I wanted this tablescape to feel joyful. A place where everyone who sat down felt a sense of belonging. A design that invites guests to come as they are, and to revel their own funky, eclectic radiance. It was designed with honey locust seed pods winding upward at the center of the frame, and touches of delicate hyacinth blooms, rosy orchids, dark calla lilies, reflexed tulips, and small grevillea flowers hanging from the edges. Centerpiece highlights from Alanna + Peter’s wedding day on Shelter Island last September. A + P’s wedding designs were fruit and veggie inspired, with funky sculptural elements and diverse shapes and textures. We leaned into a rich red and green color palette, along with a sprinkle of warm summer tones. Our intention was to make each table to feel as if it were its own art installation, with seven different centerpiece design recipes that spanned the fourteen reception tables. Each design had a unique flower recipe that highlighted a different 🍉🍅🌶️🫑🍊🍆🌽 variety. From crawling tomato chains to bud vases made out of oranges. So. Much. Fuuuuun!!! Last June, this hoop house was a flat, compact plot of rocks, sand, and dirt. the beautiful unruly mess of spring reflected in a series of tiny, precious, earthly things happening at once. the forsythia on the side of the expressway is starting to bloom and it always brings me back to this installation with @jespositophoto this install features a hanging forsythia design peppered with upside down tulips cascading from its branches, terracotta pots of living plants from local nurseries, crawling foliage, bud vases of seasonal stems, intertwined with candlelight and rose petals; anddd a little mushroom that just happened to pop up the next to the building the morning of the photoshoot.
