For the second year in a row, I had the pleasure of guiding a five-day dirt bike trip through Portugal. This ride has firmly earned its place at the top of my list—an experience that perfectly blends great riding, rich culture, and incredible food and wine.
The terrain is pure fun, with a smooth, flowing feel. It’s technical enough to keep you engaged, yet forgiving enough to maintain a pace that lets the stunning landscape stay in constant motion. The scenery is lush—greener than I’m used to—with tacky dirt, exhilarating water crossings, hill climbs, singletrack, and a bit of bushwhacking thrown in for good measure.
Each night brought a new stay, all with a distinct Portuguese vibe. From funky, modern countryside properties that feel straight out of an architectural magazine to cozy, family-run boutique hotels full of character and comfort.
Mornings started with plentiful hotel breakfasts. Lunches were often family-style, offering a variety of traditional Portuguese dishes. A quick espresso after, then back on the trail—earning our dinners, which ranged from refined hotel restaurants to intimate local spots, all featuring regional menus and that relaxed European pace. The wine and beer never disappointed, and each evening wrapped with stories from the day’s ride shared over local Portuguese pours.
