Naso in Saudi 🇸🇦 A review of ‘Anatomy of the Unseen’ at the @n.e.s.t_alula By Mizuho Yamazaki @wiityee & edited by Soraya Naso Art Journal proudly publishes the second work done by our Riyadh correspondent, Mizuho. An intimate look at Anatomy of the Unseen at The N.E.S.T. in AlUla — where artists explore the spiritual realm of Alam Al-Ghayb through installation, video, photography, and sculpture, turning domestic space, landscape, and ritual into portals of memory, hospitality, and shared imagination. “The N.E.S.T. is an experimental platform that operates outside of the institutional frameworks to grant genuine autonomy to artists. Established in 2024, the venue has both an exhibition space and a residential area. Just as travelers made a short rest in the city during their pilgrimage erstwhile, artists are invited to stay, exchange, create, and leave traces of their practice at The N.E.S.T.” Read the article to discover this special exhibition and the writer’s special take on it. A warm thank you to the writer for this exchange! 🌟💫

Naso in Riyadh 🇸🇦 A review of ‘La Fabrique’ By Mizuho Yamazaki & edited by Soraya. Naso Art Journal proudly welcomes and publishes our first Riyadh correspondent work. She recently visited and reviewed ‘La Fabrique’ in the Kingdom. 🇫🇷 🇸🇦 “Saudi Arabia and France have worked hand in hand to build new pathways for cultural collaboration, particularly since 2018. Their partnership has long found a luminous stage in AlUla, but more recently, it has shifted into a new and dynamic spotlight: Riyadh.” — Mizuho Yamakazi. As Diriyah Art Futures (@DAFMOC ) recently opened their fourth major exhibition, we reflect back one of their key survey exhibition, which closed last July 2025. Curated by DAF’s Director Dr. Haytham Nawar and artist and independent curator Ala Younis, the exhibition presented a variety of artworks by 40 artists, ranging from paintings and films to computer-generated images and installations, under four categories: Automation, Autonomy, Ripples, and Glitch. “The term “Archaeology” stems from the very archeological nature of the curatorial work to excavate and illuminate new media art practices by Arabs and their diaspora - practices that have often been buried in the Western-centered global history of media art. It was an act of mapping,” reflects curator and researcher Mizuho Yamazaki, as she was wrapping up her Mazra’ah Media Arts Residency at DAF. 🔗 Continue reading via the link in bio ✍️ Mizuho Yamazaki (@wiityee ) 📸 In order of appearance: Mona Hatoum, Plotting Table, 1998 ; Lawrence Abu Hamdan Zifzafa_ video-game essay, 2024 ; Monira Al Qadiri, Crude Eye, 2022 ; Farah Al-Qasimi, Dream Soup, 2019 ; Talal Al Najjar, Petro-Ghareebo_ NAUSEA, 2023. All installation views of the Maknana Exhibition 2025, Courtesy of Diriyah Art Futures

Save the date: next Tuesday October 21st in Paris, a conversation discussing bridges between West & East Asian contemporary art at @asianow 🌿 The 11th edition of the fair focuses on West Asia, with a spotlight on growing inter-Asian dialogues. With Shilpa Gupta’s “My East is your West” premise in mind, we will look deeply into the rise of East-East dialogues from the Gulf to East Asia. Over the past decade, the center of cultural gravity has increasingly moved East, with Asia emerging as a hub for new cultural capitals, institutions, biennials, art fairs, and innovative art market models. This panel explores the vibrant inter-Asian dialogues that reflect this shift, focusing on initiatives bridging West and East Asia—particularly those connecting the Gulf and East Asia. Bringing together researchers, curators, and artists active between Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, China, South Korea, and Japan the discussion will highlight recent exhibitions and projects that embody this East-East exchange. From museum collaborations and newly commissioned works to residency programs, touring exhibitions, and art prizes, these initiatives celebrate the shared cultural ties and growing synergy across the Asian continent. Panelists: @jay_jungheekim @wiityee @arnaud__morand and @han_mengyun Moderated by @sophiemayuko @asianow Preview Day Tuesday October 21st 14:30-15:30 📍 Monnaie de Paris By invitation only 💌

展覧会キュレーションしてます。 遊びにきてください〜!☺︎ GW最終日開幕です。 Curating an exhibition in Tokyo. Psyched to see you all there, come say hi 💚 [Speculative Land] 2022 5.8 (Sun) - 5.22 (Sun) Open 12:00 - 19:00 Venue: New Space PA (@newspace_pa ) Artists: Joud Al-Tamimi (@joudaltamimi93 ) Alaa Edris (@alaaedris ), and Bassem Saad (@bassem_s_ ) Curated by Mizuho Yamazaki In Association with the Embassy of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Japan Exhibition graphic by Takara Mahaya (@takaramahaya ) 「人新世」という言葉が注目を集め、地球環境への関心が高まりつつありますが、そもそもなぜ人間の経済活動が地球環境へ無視できないほどの影響を与えてしまっているのかを紐解くとき、先進国の産業革命による影響は無視できません。 While the term “Anthropocene” has been drawing attention and interest in the global environment has been growing, the impact of the industrial revolution in developed countries cannot be ignored as the primary factor of the environmental crisis. Centuries of economic activities by developed countries have come at the cost of erasing traditional livelihoods and relationships with the environment in colonized regions, and exploiting their natural resources such as oil. This exhibition, centered on the three countries in the Middle East, examines the structure of economic development and the future of the world from the perspective of those who were once exploited as colonies. In this time of urgent need for environmental protection on a global scale, this exhibition will provide an opportunity to consider economic development and environmental protection.
