On “Fantasy Fuel,” Chicago-based @evannmcintosh pushes through projection and miscommunication with real forward momentum — in both life and work. Their sophomore album captures the emotional and physical shift into young adulthood, carried by smooth, jazz-inflected production. Steeped in vintage references, it’s decidedly lived-in music that feels grounded and immediately classic, even as “Le Microscope” hints at a more experimental edge. We met up in Greenpoint ahead of their @night_club_101 performance and walked the neighborhood as they reflected on midwestern living, the impact of Vespertine by @bjork and learning to think less. “You created a monster,” warns BAYLI on her new Banoffee-assisted single — not as an expression of evil, but of endurance. The self-declared “princess of the underground” has never lacked conviction, only a larger stage. On NO RE-ENTRY, she steps into it fully, trusting instinct over perfection. Songs like “all of that” capture the tension at the center of her world — where outsider instincts meet a deep understanding of pop. Before opening for @beneemusic at @irvingplaza , @baylimusic and I spent some time in the park catching up. We talked about her background in rock, her collaborative spirit and the demands of marketing yourself in modern music. @icryatwork ’s voice alone can send any audience into an uproar — but it’s her sharp, relatable and often hilarious song concepts that keep them locked in. As the opener on @zaralarsson ’s Midnight Sun Tour, the orange-haired pop artist is stepping onto larger stages, watching one of the world’s biggest stars up close while flexing her own presence night after night. Her playful, new single, “prom queen,” out now, feels like a clear reflection of where she’s been — and what she’s capable of next.   Backstage at @brooklynparamount , we caught up before a sea of mini Zaras flooded the venue. She talked about what it takes to hold your own on a tour of this scale, the art of connecting with a crowd as an opener and what she’s learning in real time. @2charmmm want you to be their third. Rarely seen without trapper hats, footy shorts and sunglasses, the Australians have become the internet’s boyfriends, with a flirtatious energy that suggests they’d make for the best night ever. Their album, “star scum city,” plays like a fantasy, unfolding as a house party packed with EDM sleaze and the soft glitter of Euro club lights flashing across your face. “No pressure, it’s just a dream,” they sing on the opener — like a text from a random number inviting you to an address you’d regret ignoring. During a recent trip to New York, where 2charm played @elsewherespace , we met in Herbert Von King Park to talk about collaborating with @ninajirachi , gooner pop and a three-day bush doof back home. On his upcoming album, out March 27, @rum.gold leans into existential questions. It begins with the title itself — Is There Anybody Home? — a prompt that captures the D.C. native at a turning point, leaving the past behind as he builds toward something new, now based in Lisbon. “I’ve been trapped in my mind,” he sings on the alt-R&B highlight “Love Me Better,” using music as a way through it. “I’m changing.” On the first night of two sold-out shows at @publicrecordsnyc in Brooklyn, I sat down with rum.gold to unpack his psyche a bit further. Despite his single “Asleep at the Wheel” suggesting otherwise, what I found was an artist whose self-awareness and reflection drive his intuition. @iamcobrah has always operated in extremes — the sweat-drenched, late-night energy of the club sits at the center of her sound. On her debut album, Torn, the Swedish artist turns that intensity inward. Fans will recognize the hair-raising production that made her a cult favorite and this time Cobrah dives deeper into the emotional depth beneath it all — the humanness of a mind moving between the dance floor and the afters. Fresh off a flight from Paris Fashion Week, where Cobrah sat front row at @gcdswear and @matieresfecales , she joined me in @clubroomnewyork at the @sohograndhotel to catch up over champagne. We talked about the difficult process of moving past the sound she created — and how that exercise unlocked a new world of possibility. As she explains, the more painful the process, the bigger the reward. Discover your next obsession and subscribe to @whos_____that at JUSTINMORAN.SUBSTACK.COM. On the artwork for @niiarocco ’s latest album, V, the artist is shown with a torture device pressed into her throat. “It’s what they used to use for people who were too outspoken,” she says. “Specifically women and witches.” The image — dark, twisted and self-aware — mirrors the spirit of the music. Niia calls it “modern day jazz,” pushing against a genre that can sometimes feel frozen in nostalgia. Instead, she writes with the rebellious energy of jazz in its prime. “They were punks,” she says — creating songs that, like life, exist in the mess. Days after the New York blizzard postponed Niia’s @bluenotenyc performance, we caught up in The Bowery Hotel to talk about making an album for “active listening,” like dropping acid along the way. Claire Rosinkranz might just be the next great storyteller in pop. On “My Lover,” the California native pulls from real-life experiences — sometimes her own, sometimes those closest to her — with clarity. After going viral as a teenager and being thrust into the industry earlier than she anticipated, Rosinkranz reemerges at 22 with a sharper sense of self and intention. “I always want to be vulnerable and honest,” she says, a promise reflected in songs that wrestle with illness (“Chronic”), heartbreak (“Jayden”), faith (“Funeral”) and desire (“Kiss”). During a recent trip to New York, just days after performing on the Today Show, I sat down with @clairerosinkranz to talk about writing in Sweden, collecting stories from her best friends and embracing the power of vulnerability. @bbyafricka sets the tone with “Above Average” — a mixtape title that reads like both affirmation and warning. For an artist who treats genre like a possibility, not a limit, it doubles as a personal benchmark and a public claim to space. On “Just Like Me,” she taps into Myspace-era self-expression, while tracks like “Texaco” slip into sugar-pop, her signature rap cadences turning slick and club-ready. The 24-track “Deluxe Edition” signals this range — Bbyafricka isn’t only experimenting, she’s world-building. “I don’t just want to tackle rapping,” she says. “I want to tackle every genre.” We sat down a few days after Bbyafricka performed (following @cute.door ’s DJ set) at @b4sounds ’ “greatest hits vol. 2” release party in New York to talk about finding the right producers, collaborating with scene icons @therealbrokencyde and experiencing genuine happiness. Cute Door is your average suburban girl — just with a few secrets tucked inside her matching ALO set. On her single, “Flashlight (Turn Me On),” off @b4sounds ’ new compilation, the artist delivers her lyrics in a hushed, ASMR-like whisper that feels at once alluring and menacing. Should we run toward her or away? The music — and @cute.door ’s perfectly cheesy smile — makes you want to do both. In the aftermath of New York’s blizzard, Cute Door and I went window shopping through SoHo after a long conversation over tea. Between Aritzia, Lacoste and Equinox, we found ourselves deep in the lore of this project — tracing its subtleties, its complications and the personal discoveries the artist unearthed along the way. Holly Humberstone considers herself an observer — a curious witness to universal experiences, best captured in song. Her music sounds deeply personal, yet it reflects something collective: the heartbreakingly human ways we navigate love. On her new album, “Cruel World,” the English singer-songwriter turns pain into something fantastical. Still, the truth slips through. As she sings on the lead single: at least you got to love somebody. We met up at @lilliesvictorian for a midday hair of the dog, after @hollyhumberstone performed live on @fallontonight the night before and celebrated afterward in New York. Over drinks, she told me she grew up in a self-declared haunted home — an experience that shaped much of the music from this era — and spoke about why she feels more confident than ever.
