👇 What do you do to fill your cup and inspire you? 🌷🌻 Flowers do it for me every time! Plus being near the ocean often helps to bring things back into focus somehow. 🧶 One of the things I love about punch needle is that you don’t need much time - just grab 10 minutes here and there if you can. 👀 I’d love to know what quick things you do to make you feel inspired or creative - let me know in the comments below and hopefully we’ll all find something new! 👋 Hi, I’m Sara and I run Whole Punching - a one stop shop for all things punch needle. 📚Welcome to episode 1 in my Punch Needle Pointers series! Weekly quickfire tips to help you in your punch needle journey. 👉 The easiest way to stop your fabric fraying and seal those edges is to use masking tape. Fold it along the edge, flip over and fold again. It really is that easy! Yes you could use a sewing machine or overlocker, but why bother when this is so much quicker and just as effective. 💾 Don’t forget to save and refer back when you need to. ✨If you’re a beginner to punch needle and want to learn how, follow along! ✨ #learnpunchneedle #punchneedletutorial #punchneedletips #howtopunchneedle #punchneedle #oxfordpunchneedle

Are you team tidy? Or do you leave your loops? It’s totally up to you how much time you do or don’t spend tidying up your loops. I quite like a crisp line so u tend to spend a bit of time here manipulating the loops until they look neat. I like using an unthreaded Oxford needle or a small pair of embroidery scissors. What about you? 👋 Hi, I’m Sara. I’m a punch needle teacher based in Coventry, UK. I run Whole Punching your one stop shop for all things punch needle. Don’t you miss how Instagram used to be? When you could just share a little imperfect photo of what you were currently working on? Without trying to tame the beast (the algorithm)?! In my mind it’s a little bit like Seymour in the Little Shop of Horrors 🫣

Please let me live vicariously through your projects! What are you working on right now? I’m trying to finish my cushion without starting something new 😬

Do you feel the same when you get to the tidying up part? Most of the time I love it as it’s so satisfying but there are those times when I can’t be bothered to do the finishing and I just want to move on to the next project! I know there are people who poke tails and trim loops as they go but that’s just not me 🫣 Are you team tidy?

I’m so bored of seeing the same old cushions pop up on Pinterest. Where has the originality gone? Cushions are one of the easiest and cheapest ways to update your decor. Don’t be boring! Make your own, not only is it more fun (and maximum satisfaction) but you can make exactly what you want. I know there are some weird people out there who don’t believe in cushions - but I’m guessing that’s not you?!

Do you love or hate the preparation? As much as I love getting started punching I know the importance of taking the time to prepare properly - it pays dividends. Here I’m using a gripper frame with monks cloth. #punchneedlepillow #punchneedlecushion #howtopunchneedle #punchneedletutorial

Making an envelope backing for my punch needle cushion - My cushion measures 45cm square with border - Cut two pieces of backing fabric 45 x 30xm (two thirds the length) - Hem each long side with a 1cm hem - Place right sides together with hemmed edges overlapping - Pin or clip to punched piece - Using a sewing machine stitch all the way around the edge being careful not to catch the loops - Turn out and stuff - Admire your cushion! I love making punch needle cushions and these two were a dream to punch with the variegated yarn. Obviously it’s better to start small, practice and work your way up….but where’s the fun in that. Go big or go home…make the damn rug! Nothing is more satisfying than having a handmade rug in your home. What would you make first? #learnpunchneedle #punchneedle #handmaderug
