Cabo wasnāt a destination. It was a permission slip.
Permission to slow down. To sit by the water and not document every second of it. To eat without rushing and laugh without a reason and just be with the women I love most.
My sisterās birthday. My momās presence. My full, undivided attention on both of them.
No itinerary. No agenda. Just us noticing things ā the light at golden hour, the way the water changes color, the small moments that donāt make the grid but live in your body forever.
This is what vacation is supposed to feel like.
Thatās the trip. Thatās all it needed to be.

The worldās largest tea producer gave America iced tea, gave North Africa mint tea, gave England its afternoon tradition ā and the other evening, gave me one of the most beautiful evenings Iāve had in DC.
Tea for Harmony at the Embassy of the Peopleās Republic of China was everything: traditional musicians from Beijing, six categories of Chinese tea, a live ceremony, and a reminder that culture has always been the most powerful form of diplomacy.
Thereās an ancient Chinese saying ā āIt is the blending of ingredients that makes the soup delicious.ā
The world and its cultures. The blending is the point.

This is what flaneuring looks like.

April is Arab American Heritage Month ā and honestly, my Arab friends have been my best travel guides ā no need to book a flight. The food, the music, the hospitality, the stories. It quietly changed the way I move through the world. š¤
So consider this my love letter to Arab American creatives who are out here giving us their full selves ā no filter, no watering down.
From comedy to film, music to poetry to visual art ā these are the people Iāve been pressing play on, dog-earing pages for, and low-key telling everyone about at dinner.
Swipe through and get familiar.
And if I left off your favorite, drop them below ā because I know I missed somebody. š

Most people donāt actually travel. They just relocate their anxiety.
I said what I said. š
I picked up Alain de Bottonās āThe Art of Travelā expecting a love letter to wanderlust. What I got was a quiet interrogation of every assumption Iāve ever made about why I move through the world the way I do.
de Botton doesnāt tell you where to go. He asks whether you even know how to be somewhere. And honestly? That question sat with me for days.
Swipe through 7 themes that reshuffled something in me ā on anticipation, attention, the sublime, and the uncomfortable truth that no destination is far enough to outrun the version of yourself that boards the plane (or whatever your preferred mode of transportation).
The theme that hit hardest: the idea that real transformation in travel isnāt about the itinerary. Itās about learning to look. Slowly. On purpose. (See slide 6.)
So ā save this for your next trip. And then tell me in the comments:
Has a place ever genuinely changed you? Or did you change, and the place just happened to be the backdrop? I want the real answer. š

Hip hop has no passport ā it just shows up, takes over, and makes itself at home. This weekās Sonic Sundays playlist is proof. India. Japan. Palestine. Turkey. Nepal. Puerto Rico. Morocco. Senegal. Korea. Cambodia. One genre. Every continent. Zero borders.
Global Hip Hop Vol. 1 is live. Your ears are not ready.

āJohannesburg isnāt chaoticā¦youāre just not fluent in it yet.ā
Graffiti that feels like a conversation mid-sentence.
Commissioned murals that turn whole buildings into living archives šØ
A goat in the street, unbothered, as if urban planning included livestock all along.
A Nelson Mandela House that holds more than historyā¦it holds a pulse.
And yes, a KFC ad every few steps, somehow fully woven into the cultural fabricā¦
Jozi doesnāt separate the sacred from the everyday.
It layers them.
Resistance lives on walls.
Legacy lives in homes you can walk through.
Global icons sit comfortably next to hyperlocal realities.
Nothing is out of place.
Itās just not curated for your comfort.
Spend a little time here and you realizeā¦
this city isnāt trying to be decoded.
Itās inviting you to pay attention.

Iāve been traveling latelyā¦just not by plane.
Through film. š¬š
And what I keep noticing in contemporary African cinema is this through line ā
stories that donāt just entertain, but carry.
You see it in the way mythology slips into everyday life.
In how memory is treated like something alive, not archived.
In how tradition and modernity arenāt oppositesā¦but in constant negotiation.
It all feels rooted in something older ā
the griot tradition.
Where storytelling isnāt just artā¦itās preservation, resistance, identity.
And now, itās being reimagined through the lens.
So yes, the cinematography is stunning ā
but what really stays with you is how these films think.
How they remember.
How they imagine forward.
Same worldā¦different ways of telling it.

I thought I was just going to two Indian food/cookbook events last weekā¦
but I walked into a story about how culture travels.
With Priya Krishna, it was about interpretationā
how food gets translated, written, and shared so more people can understand it.
With Sana Javeri Kadri and Asha Loupy, it started at the sourceā
spices, trade, memory. Flavor as something you can trace all the way back.
Two generations.
Two different entry points.
One shared intention: bringing people closer to culture through food.
Not just how it tastesā
but where itās beenā¦who carried itā¦and how it keeps evolving.
Because the more I pay attention, the more I realize:
food isnāt just nourishment.
Itās interpretation. Itās memory. Itās movement.
Culture travelsā¦sometimes on a plate.

Paris isnāt just a place⦠itās a collection of moments you keep replaying. š«š·āØ
From gilded symmetry at Palace of Versailles to the soft rebellion of street art tucked between Haussmann faƧadesā¦
from Marie Antoinetteās cottagecore escape (before cottagecore was a personality trait) to lovers embracing along the Seine Riverā¦
and somewhere in betweenāstories you werenāt taught on the Black history walks that quietly reframe the whole city.
Paris, but make it layered.
Paris, but make it human.
Paris, but make itā¦remembered.
