The best teachers in the world use contemporary themes to engage their students into learning, and at Where The Wall we see this as we work with so many different schools each year. Banksy is extremely important with teachers these days who use his outstanding & varied career to encourage learning into a variety of subjects: from art to english to geography, to current affairs. Therefore it’s essential that in Bristol his early work is maintained and cared for, and two years ago, having noticed the original frame around this early Banksy stencil artwork had been damaged, we immediately had a new frame built around it. In June 2018, we travelled to Latin America to set up some cultural links and had the pleasure of spending some time with Ignacio (@difuzo_azteka ), a Chilean muralist who not only paints giant murals, but often work’s with groups of people to create community-based murals. Here is his mural of the famous figure El Motemei, painted on Cerro Lecheros in Valparaíso, Chile. The footage is a still frame from some of the best drone footage we’ve ever taken and is taken from a documentary movie Where The Wall made whilst in Valparaíso, Chile. Motemei was a classic character from Chile representing those people that would walk the streets, singing a song, and deliver fresh corn door to door. These are photos from the archives of Where The Wall documenting all of their self-funded art projects from 2011-2020. Our project “12 Artists Painting 12 Months in 12 Weeks” took 12 of Bristol’s top street artists and graffiti artists into the heart of Bristol’s commercial shopping district to promote the artists themselves, and the art forms to the masses in 2015. The project was curated, produced and extensively filmed by Rob from Where The Wall, documenting each artist’s work, and the juxtaposition with the local environment, in this highly unusual but interesting location for painting activities. We challenged each artist who painted to come up with something unique. In this posting we are showing the work of @epok.epok . Best known for his superb graffiti art styles, but for this project he chose to develop an image based upon his knowledge and fascination of architectural forms and shapes, using a mixture of tools and mediums from string to various sized paint rollers, emulsion paint and of course spray cans!
