Eat. Drink. Build a Skatepark! 🛹 Join us this Saturday, March 28, from 6–9 p.m. at Nelson’s for a night of good food, cold drinks, and a proper send-off for our favorite kook, Keegan Brown, before he bails on us for Spokane! We’re raising funds for the Bellingham Waterfront Skatepark project — turning the space under the Roeder Avenue Bridge into something special. How you can help: 🍺 Drink Up: 100% of proceeds from all draft beer, lemonade and iced tea go directly to Whatcom Community Foundation’s skatepark fund. 🍗 Eat Well: Grab our Chicken & Biscuit Dinner ($19.50) and we’ll donate $2 from every plate. Can’t make it Saturday evening but still want to give? Go to: nwskatecollective.org/donate. More info @nwskatecollective . #bellinghamskatepark #bellinghamwa #bellinghamlife

Big news for Whatcom County philanthropy! 🎉 U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell is co-sponsoring the bipartisan IRA Charitable Rollover Facilitation and Enhancement Act, which would make it easier for older Americans to give from their IRAs to donor-advised funds. Why it matters locally: This commonsense fix could unlock more flexible retirement giving to support Whatcom County nonprofits — from food banks and childcare to housing and environmental programs. Stronger local giving = stronger local communities. 💙

We sat down with Wayne Kangas, the creative mastermind behind Doris the Disco Duck, to learn about his process and hear his thoughts on her quarterly migrations around Whatcom County. For those unfamiliar, Doris is a mobile public art installation created by Kangas and generously donated to the Port of Bellingham by Larry Berghoff through Whatcom Community Foundation. Wayne crafted Doris from salvaged espresso machine parts and has been transforming scrap steel into art for years—you can find his work throughout town, most notably at @kulshanbrewery K2. @Whatcom Community Foundation works to improve life for everyone in Whatcom County. By pooling resources from generous donors, they support a wide range of initiatives that help people and communities thrive. WCF champions bold, collaborative ideas—funding efforts that foster connection and neighborliness, maintaining a resilience reserve for urgent needs and disaster recovery, supporting nonprofit services, and yes, bringing joy through whimsical public art installations like Doris. Next time you spot Doris at a Port of Bellingham property, snap a photo with her and tag us on social media using #PortDiscoDuck and #FindThePortDuck for a chance to win a prize!

Our community inspires us: You’ve donated $17,456 to the Co-op's Farm Fund, which will help small, local farms recover from the catastrophic floods a few weeks ago. The Co-op has also contributed another $10,000 — that’s almost $30,000 raised in under three weeks! If you’re a local farmer needing to rebuild, this money is for you. Apply for a grant through the link in bio. If you know anyone who may qualify, please send them this post. The application is available in both English and Spanish. Customer donations have primarily come through our Making Change at Checkout program, where you can donate small amounts at the register. Larger donations can be made online at the link in our bio. If you’d like to make a tax-deductible donation, you can do so through our partner Whatcom Community Foundation. Find more information on the Farm Fund page. The Farm Fund has provided $878k+ to local food and farming projects through grants, loans, scholarships, and emergency funds since 2000. The Farm Fund Committee is comprised of local farmers and food advocates that work toward strengthening the market for organic and sustainable agriculture in Whatcom County. One hundred percent of donations through the Co-op go straight to our local farming community.
