DEATH METAL STORY TIME…. Back in 2006, I got asked if I wanted to be the vocalist for a new band coming together from the ashes ov a short-lived band called BEHEAD THE ROMANTIC.. it was to be melodic death metal in the vein ov At The Gates / The Black Dahlia Murder etc. At the time I was in THEE KVLT OV OUROBOROS (among other things) and felt it would be cool to branch out and be only a vocalist.. Thus, BY THE HORNS was born! With Casey Spahr and Dustin Lollis on guitars, Sameer Matta on bass, and Matt Rosario on drums, we concocted sharp, melodic riffs with bludgeoning heavy parts and seething rage.
We played as many shows as we could, including FEST here in Gainesville, and an opening slot for WATAIN in Tampa at the Brass Mug. We also played a show with comedian Doug Stanhope, and a show with the gal who “won” the first season ov Rock ov Love (🤷♀️). Weird times.
We set out to record a full length, DESTROY THE HORIZON, which I have just put on streaming media remastered and with a couple bonus tracks (link below). This recording was fraught with bad luck; mostly in that the studio we recorded in ended up shutting down unceremoniously while we were in the middle ov it. So, admittedly, the mix isn’t the greatest, didn’t even get to do a 2nd vocal track.. but it is a good testament to what we were up to! Lots ov catchy riffs and brutal moments, with my acerbic vocal stylings tying it together conceptually. I even had hair back then 🤯
Ultimately, Dustin, Matt and myself started HOT GRAVES while this project was still active, but then moved full time to that once it became clear that it was gonna be way more fun to do. But I’m glad we made this document, and proud to share it with you guys now!

It has been quite some time since we last beckoned the gates of synthesis. And it is here that we bestow upon you our first full length album - CITRUS SUNSET.
CITRUS SUNSET stands as an ode to the real Floridian landscape and experience: the enduring flora and fauna; the songs of endless rain; the pulsing ocean and the sweet kiss of it's salinity; the searing embrace of the sun; the sprawling, tempered lives that plead to the will of Mother Nature - may we all experience her natural beauty, rather than suffer her pitiless wrath.
It is here within the true expanse and influence of our home-state that we have delved even deeper into the limitless wonders of our synthesis - the ambience and texture of Florida.
