What a wonderful quilt show at Sauder Village! This is only a small sampling of the 200+ quilts that are on view. Quilters and quilt enthusiasts traveled, some very long ways, just to be here for this show. I loved the bits of conversation I overheard as I walked through the aisles, watching gloved hands lift corners and trace quilt lines with their thumbs. If you're in the region, this show continues through the weekend. Not a bad way to start a new month 🪡✨️

The Fenimore, continued, in 2020. Featuring work by Ramona Sakiestewa, Cecelia Slavey, Juanisialuk, and Christina Hunt Wood. Still with the intrepid @valeratyler !

Another museum clearout post, this time the great @fenimoreartmuseum . During a time of high stress from graduate school and a pandemic, the incredible @valeratyler and I would take day trips to explore museums in the central New York area. Some highlights of our time at the Fenimore, including some quilts, Anna Mary Robertson (Grandma) Moses, architectural drawings by Fritz G. Vogt, two amazing watercolors by Eunice Griswold Pinney, a rich painting by Ralph Fasanella, and other delights by many self taught artists. So many wonderful treasures in their collection!

Maybe I'm showing my age, but my phone's storage is demanding a #latergram📷 so I can clear out some photos. I believe I saw these works at the @highmuseumofart when I visited during a work trip. This was before I had made the decision to change career paths. Nevertheless, I remember sharing a lyft (do they still offer that feature?) on my way to and from the High on my free afternoon because I knew it was not one to miss.* I remember loving my time there and wishing I could do this more often. It's nice being able to look back and see some of the steps that brought me to where I am today. 1. 19th century snake quilt 2. Howard Finster, In My Father's House Are Many Mansions, #4, 392 3-4. Henry Church, A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed 5-7. My first experience with Do Ho Suh's work 8-9. 🐋🦈 *And then, of course, I had to go to the aquarium that evening to see the whale sharks. I'm nothing if not predictable.

I can't believe it has been two weeks since NCECA! I was blown away by the artistry, comraderie, and general good vibes by the record breaking number of attendees, which I expected. So many dazzling presentations, exhibitions, and performances escaped my phone's camera--consider what I post to be the bite sized sampler that it is. Thank you to everyone who shared your work and enthusiasm for the medium, it's history, and where it goes in the future. What I wasn't expecting to get from my NCECA trip was to explore and fall in love with our sister city, Detroit. I can't wait to go back and continue to explore the city, as well as to return to the DIA. The Great Lakes truly has some great art--and how lucky that thousands of ceramicists made it that much richer this spring. . . . . #nceca

It was starting to get close to the wire, but I've finally finished my first Hawaiian quilt project in under a year! Thank you so much to Cissy @poakalani for welcoming me into your open quilt class and telling me about the group, Rae for your excellent instruction even as I slowly floundered, and Pat @hawaiianquiltsbypat for not only cheering me on to finish my original pillow vision but also giving me a strategy that allowed me to avoid sewing a scary zipper. While this quilt came together in fits and starts, and the echo quilting is consistently incorrect, every time I picked it up this quilt brought me back to the warmth and generosity of that day. Truly the spirit of aloha; mahalo for your kindness. This ti leaf design is by John Serrao. And yes, I've already started a second attempt at appliqueing and quilting this design. #hawaiianquilt #poakalanihawaiianquilters #textileart

Pentaculum, Pentaculum! What an absolute honor and joy to have been the curatorial coordinator for Arrowmont's winter Pentaculum residency. I learned so much from Michelle, March, Rigo, Katy, and Erin during this past week while simultaneously being blown over by the energy and creativity of the artists and writers converging in Gatlinburg, TN. Looking forward to carrying these new friendships and creative energies forward in 2026, particularly when there are ever more challenges on the horizon. Thank you to the staff, fellow coordinators, artists, writers, and my curatorial colleagues who made this week so bright. . . . . . . #arrowmont #arrowmont_school #pentaculum #curatorialresidency

Beyond honored to have been the coordinator of the first curatorial component of Arrowmont’s Pentaculum residency, an electric week of creation, generosity, and community-building. Speaking only for myself, while I loved the dedicated time this residency offered me to work on my own research it really is the community of artists, curators, and dedicated staff members who I have been returning to time and again. Many thanks to the Knoxville Museum of Art (@knoxvillemuseumofart ), the McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture (@mcclungmuseum ), and Able Trade (@abletradeknox ) for giving us such valuable tours and fostering amazing and thought-provoking discussions. I was so lucky to bring together @soydcw , @kathryn.m.hill , and @theurbnsloth to share curatorial ideas, approaches, and much needed laughter. Possibly the most thanks has to go to 2D coordinator Jun Lee (@junieleelee ) and her amazing team who cranked out 80-something Pentaculum t-shirts in Arrowmont’s library. I still owe you that drink, Jun! Thank you, everyone, for making such a spectacular Pentaculum. . . . . . #artcurator #curatorial #craftcurator #curatorialresidency #arrowmont #pentaculum

Lucky enough to help with the initial installation of @annelindbergstudio 's new work. I can't wait to see it completed, but even these early steps have a beautiful mixture of color, shadow, and the blurring of line into mass. Such lovely people and such stunning work.
