Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry students presented research posters highlighting evidence-based decision making in clinical practice.
The College of Optometry 3rd Year Poster Walk, held May 5, 2026, on the WesternU California campus, featured research posters developed from students’ conference-quality case reports based on real patients from the WesternU Health Eye Care Institute and affiliated clinical network.
“In an era of rapid technological advancement and constant innovation in health care, evidence-based decision making is essential to ensure that new tools, treatments, and technologies translate into safe, effective, and high-quality patient care,” said College of Optometry Founding Dean Elizabeth Hoppe, OD, MPH, DrPH. “When our students master this skill, they are fulfilling the WesternU promise to produce the next generation of humanistic health care providers.” #optometry #optometryresearch #research

This week, we had the pleasure of celebrating our third-year students and recognizing all of their hard work and accomplishments the past three years.
On Tuesday, our third-year students presented their Grand Rounds posters during the annual poster walk. Faculty and fellow students had the opportunity to explore their research and ask questions. 🤔

Ashley Hill, OD Class of 2028, received the Ujima Scholarship Award for her academic excellence and commitment to advancing equity in healthcare.
Honored on April 18, 2026, Hill shared how powerful it felt to be surrounded by a community that reflects her identity—an experience that continues to inspire her journey in optometry.
She plans to specialize in pediatric optometry and vision therapy, with a focus on expanding access to care for underserved communities.

The NOSA team was able to hold a vision screening training event last night, and it was a great success. It was a wonderful experience for everyone involved, and included a hands-on session to help prepare the volunteers for their upcoming medical brigade.
