. Hey, just me reminding you: Food is fuel. Food is not your enemy. Food is not emotionally for or against you. Food is not time specific. One of the biggest hindrances people create in meeting their intake goals is believing the self imposed "rules" and thought processes they have surrounding food. For example, thoughts like: •Certain foods can only be eaten at certain times. •Meals having to look like perfectly put together meals. •Meals having to come from "healthy recipes". •Certain foods make you fat/Certain foods make you skinny. All of the above statements are untrue. The only rules you should have or follow are: 1- don't eat foods you're allergic to 2- don't eat foods that are rotten Beyond that, you can make any food work for you if you pay attention to how it fits into your intake needs. Some foods might provide you the ability to eat a greater volume of them which mentally can be helpful for those who are in a deficit and trying to lose body fat. Some foods might provide a significantly lesser volume of food while packing higher calories which physically can be helpful for those trying to gain muscle mass or perform at higher outputs or for longer distances. People with body fat loss goals will more than likely eat differently than people with muscle growth goals will more than likely eat differently than people maintenance goals will more than likely eat differently than those with performance goals. No specific food inherently causes success or lack there of. No single specific food inherently causes muscle or body fat loss or gain or guaranteed performance. How you utilize food for your specific needs & goals is key. If you want greater success, make the choice to step away from self imposed rules or emotions you have around food. . Alignment is everything. Who are you? What do you stand for? Where are you going? What got you here? You can't stranglehold your way into alignment. You have to surrender & be honest with yourself. You have to trust continuing to make the next best decision, often the hardest decisions, in being true to yourself. You have to look at your good, your bad & everything in between... and be ok with it, learn from it, evolve with it. As you head through your life, I have 3 questions for you. 1- What are you shedding & not taking forward with you? What thoughts, ideas, traits, habits, that served old versions of you, are you ready to leave behind? Which have never served you that you're ready to leave behind? 2- What is coming forward with you? What thoughts, ideas, traits, habits are you taking with you that you've always had? That are inherently apart of you?What thoughts, ideas, traits, habits are you taking with that you've grown into, evolved through, added this year? 3- Looking ahead, what do you want to solidify? What do you want to add to you and your life? True health is more than just muscle & macros. It's mental health, mindset & embracing alignment. Dig your heels in on this one. . For those of you feeling unsure of what to pursue with the shifting of the year... I encourage you to pursue yourself. Pursue becoming the happiest, healthiest, most present, most healed, most calm & most confident version of yourself. Go for a walk. Lift heavy shit. Grow your ass & your self belief. Mind your movement. Nourish your body with adequate hydration, fueling & sleep. You'd be amazed at how that alone can clear the fog. Nothing changes if nothing changes. Take that lesson you've been embarrassed to take. Sign up for the clinic that intimidates you. Let yourself be a beginner and blossom. Spend more unplugged time outside. Even in small increments. . Simply eating healthy is not a guarantee for success. Here as some tips, tricks and simple habits to use to set yourself up for success when it comes to your nutrition. • Keep it simple. You don't need to make lavish meals or follow in depth recipes. All meals don't need to look like a meal. Random foods in a bowl or on a plate are still nourishing foods. • Track your food BEFORE you eat it. This allows you to make adjustments to your portions (increasing or decreasing) to ensure you hit your intake. If you wait until the end of the day to track what you ate, you've given up all control of your outcome. Track in real time for real time success in hitting your intake goals. • Serving sizes are just suggestions. Depending on your personal intake needs, you make need to increase or decrease the amount you eat of a specific food at any given time. Don't not get enough of or go over your intake needs because of a suggestion. • Eat like you give a damn about yourself. Food is not your friend. Food is not your enemy. Food is fuel for your body, your brain, your hormones, your performance, your clarity. Use it as such. • The poison is in the dose. No one single food is going to be the end of you. No one single food will cause body fat gain or loss. It's all in how you do or don't make the foods you like work for you. You should never remove an entire macronutrient from your intake. • Last but not least, a short list of food's you shouldn't eat... Foods that are rotten. Foods you're allergic to. Foods that simply make you feel like shit. Foods you don't like, you are an adult You are worthy of being the most confident, healthy, happy version of you. You are worthy of feeling good, energetic and strong every damn day. Stay curious & find excitement in building your weapon. Remember, you are your best investment. Invest well. Invest intentionally. . We don't hyper focus on feeding our horses so they simply look a certain way. We feed them so they can perform at high levels & show up well fueled when we need them to get a job done, in the show pen or on adventures. We don't starve them and then wonder why they seem lethargic or depleted. Whatever body is presented from adequate feed, daily turn out, schooling & training is the body they have & we rarely think much past that. We appreciate them & what they can do. So why hyper focus on eating to look a certain way ourselves instead of eating to fuel, perform well at high levels, "school & train" ourselves hard & appreciate the body that presents itself from the care we give it? One of the greatest advantages you can give yourself is prioritizing how you feel, how you show up, your energy levels, your sleep quality, your mood, how your clothes fit... Not the number on the scale & if it's moving or not. Not nit picking the body in the mirror that is doing its best with what you are or aren't providing it. You will always care about how you feel. Feeling good amplifies the want to feel even better. To push for more and enjoy it in the process. When the going gets tough & stress is running high, you won't care what the scale says or how your ass looks, but you will care how you feel overall & if you can maintain a good attitude through the challenges. Energy flows where focus goes. Focus on feeling good & showing up for yourself. Appreciate the body that comes to the party. Change your focus. Change your body. Change your outlook.
