This is Molly. She and her human Jessica Johnston were hiking together in a remote area of New Zealand last week when Johnston fell down a 55-meter (180-foot) waterfall and suffered serious injuries. Johnston was rescued by helicopter, but Molly remained missing. Due to the traumatic fall, Johnston wasn't sure whether Molly fell with her or not. But one week later, after three unsuccessful missions to try to find the dog, helicopter pilot Matt Newton spotted her near the base of the waterfall using a thermal camera. He immediately passed the news along to Johnston, who had only recently been released from the hospital. During the rescue, a helicopter crewman named Wayne brought along his Jack Russell, Bingo, for emotional support in case Molly was frightened. Once she was safely secure, Molly and Johnston were reunited. The rescue missions were paid for by donations, for which Johnston is extremely grateful. "I'm absolutely blown away with the support everyone has given her so far from the kindest of strangers," she wrote in a Facebook comment. He was found on the side of the road, limping and unable to bear weight on his right front leg. X-rays confirmed his elbow is completely broken in half, causing constant, severe pain. He needs surgery to repair his leg, along with the placement of an external fixator to stabilize the fracture. This is Daisy. She ate a plastic bag. At the time, she didn’t think it was a big deal, but then it caused a dangerous blockage. As a result, she lost her appetite and became severely underweight. Thanks to your recent support of our ‘tell your dog i said hi’ merch, the @1510foundation was able to cover her $7,500 care, including emergency surgery to remove the obstruction. We’re thrilled to report she’s recovering beautifully and will stick to eating dog food going forward. To top it all off, the surgeon who saved her also adopted her ❤️🩹
This is Natty. He’s about to become the Washington Nationals’ first official team dog when he makes his debut on Friday, May 15. The 8-week-old pup, who is by our estimates a mere three baseballs tall, will practice socialization skills and basic cues during his time with the team and with his puppy raisers in Virginia. Around 18 months, he will begin professional training through Canine Companions to become a service dog for a person with a disability. This is Winky. She arrived at the shelter underweight with severe dental disease, skin allergies, and painful tumors on her belly.
