A trip to Dumfries & Galloway to visit our longtime favourite potter Clare Dawdry, to see firsthand the craftsmanship that goes into creating the plates and bowls for the restaurant.
Clare welcomed us into her studio and guided us through each stage of the process. From throwing and turning, to glazing and firing. We even had a go at the wheel!
There’s something incredibly special about working with people whose work becomes such an integral part of the dining experience.

This weekend is the last couple of days to see the Conversations with Clay exhibition @gracefield_art_centre in Dumfries. It’s been an interesting project and a great opportunity to share and learn new skills. Hopefully the start of more collaborative works from @pamelagraceprintmaker and I.
Looking ahead now to @springfling and grateful for the sunshine to get the pots drying out before firing. Brochures are available across #dumfriesandgalloway and can be ordered on the spring fling website. Plenty of time to flick through and plan your routes with a choice of 111 studios to visit this year.
Today was delivery day for a new collection of work, produced in collaboration with @pamelagraceprintmaker for ‘Conversations with Clay’ which opens this weekend at Gracefield Arts Centre in Dumfries. For this original exhibition, each of the ceramic artists were invited to select a visual artist to explore common themes and ideas in each others work and see what might happen. The pairings, some new, some well established, have produced new dialogues in the art work created.

The end of January is finally here! The longest, coldest month for us potters. I’ve been quiet on here of late, but I’ve been a busy bee in the workshop. Here I am turning foot rings into a large platter. If only I could work this fast! This one will be decorated with slips and sgrafitto and is for a show opening @gracefield_art_centre this spring.
