Thank you to everyone who took part in ‘The Gift of Listening‘. Through Wei Ting’s guidance and performance, we practised listening together, sensing the spaces that sound can open and the energies it carries within! - Photo and video © ss space space (Sean Tseng)

As an exhibition and a year-long programme, Lessons in Love straddles individuality and community in a multitude of ways – firstly, through a moving, pulsating show that changes over the course of the exhibition period, introducing the invited artists to develop new work at UKS in 2026. In this first chapter of the programme, each artist was invited to introduce themselves through one or several recent works of art which will be dynamically presented at UKS in a shifting landscape of sentiment, spanning the terrains of grief, longing, devotion and generosity. The social sculpture SeSiSå (2022) by Jacky Jaan-Yuan Kuo and Wei Ting Tseng working as a duo brings together the whole community with their publication and installation. Originally an installation and a workshop-based exhibition held at TENTHAUS in Oslo, the work brought together children from Møllergata skole in Oslo, where a majority of pupils have mixed cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Through sound, they explored experiences of migration, being misunderstood and (mis)heard, in a safe and caring environment. The work presented in Lessons in Love represents this ephemeral piece through a collection of documentation and a sonic sculpture. * OPENING HOURS Wednesday 12 - 5pm Thursday 12 - 7pm Friday - Sunday 12 - 5pm ** Lessons in Love 14.2.26 - 3.5.26 Jacky Jaan-Yuan Kuo. As Silent As Bombs experiments with kinaesthetic approaches to sound and is structured through data-driven visual frameworks. The data-based composition addresses military violations and sonic fear within contemporary geopolitical tensions involving China, Taiwan, Ukraine, Russia and the United States. The piece translates visualised datasets – including the frequency of Chinese military provocations in Taiwanese airspace, military expenditure and fossil fuel consumption per capita – into sound to interrogate collective narratives, power relations and shared histories. As Silent As Bombs was created in 2022 – 24 and was previously presented at Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, Tegnetriennalen and Oslo Negativ. The performance is part of Lessons in Love. * AS SILENT AS BOMBS 23 April 2026, 6PM Keysers gate 1 ** Photo: Stine Mako

My friendship with Belén Santillán began in 2023 when she first came to Norway. She mentioned this book during the very first interview I hosted on the radio, and in 2026 we met again through this important work, Borderlands by Gloria E. Anzaldúa, an icon of Chicana feminism, cultural theory, and queer theory. One week before the Mother Tongue concert at nyMusikk, I invited Belén to lead a reading session of this book, which had inspired the concert’s theme. She fed us the words one spoonful at a time, like a mother feeding her child. I wish to add another layer to the concert experience, as I believe a concert is not only what we hear, but also what we think and choose to hear. Thank you, @nymusikk , for allowing me to experiment with this format and for bringing more readings into the music community. Thank you, @_belen.santillan_ , for your wisdom and trust. And thank you to everyone who participated in the reading. It was such a beautiful evening, one where none of us wanted to leave the room in the end. @weitingzen @mariadybbroe @marensofienj @jljljljljljljljljljlj
