Personally, I think the Foul Blightspawn is currently the most interesting piece in Joy Toyās Warhammer line. Although the design limits articulation in the legsāthereās barely any movementāthe back and all the mechanisms mounted on it are surprisingly articulated rather than just decorative, which is a really nice touch.
In terms of paint, it follows the usual Nurgle color scheme, but it feels like the wash effects have been getting lighter and lighter. It makes me wonder whether Joy Toy has been pushed by GW to hit some KPI for selling wash paints, or if the workers who were good at applying washes just didnāt come back to the factory after the holidays š¤
It comes with four plague grenades in one go, which is actually quite generous. However, Joy Toy painted the rotting flesh and the skeleton in the same color, and even the Nurglingās eyes look a bit sloppy. In the end, I had to do some additional touch-ups myself š

Compared to the Deathshroud champion, this one clearly shows a bit of corner-cutting in the paintwork. Thereās noticeably less highlight work, and the shading is applied quite lightly.
On the other hand, thanks to the simpler design, the articulation actually feels slightly better. I added some heavier washes to bring the details back out, and again used a mix of different varnish finishes to create contrast between the armor and the mutated flesh.
Even just standing there, the overall presence is pretty strong ā but that fly on his back still feels a bit too distracting š¤.

Originally, this Blightlord was the one I had the lowest expectations for because of that tiny traffic-baton-looking weapon. Surprisingly, once the mass-release version came out, he actually turned out to have the best body proportions of the bunch.
From the start, I had planned to swap his shoulder armor onto another figure to turn it into the Blightlord Champion from the mobile game. I even bought a parted-out Deathshroud shoulder piece specifically for this build. Iāll probably still replace that short sword later on as well š¤

The Nurgle Icon Bearer is actually pretty well done.
Unfortunately, because of the design, the posing options are quite limited unless you remove the banner.
I also added some extra washes and gloss effects to the biological parts and parts of the armor to bring out the details. One of these days I might replace the plastic chains on the banner with real metal chains š¤

I referenced the design from the mobile game and swapped the shoulder armor with one from another Blightlord. The original shoulder piece was too small in proportion, and the octopus tentacle on the right shoulder interfered heavily with articulation.
That said, aside from the disproportionate shoulder and chest armor, Joy Toy actually put a lot of effort into the sculpted details on the Death Guard line. Beyond the damaged armor, the biological parts have quite a lot of texture sculpted in as well. With some extra washes and by using a mix of matte, satin, and gloss finishes, the details really start to pop.
The only weak point on this Blightlord is the smoke effect. It almost feels like the factory received the wrong mold file, or the designer had already run out of enthusiasm by that point ā it looks particularly half-hearted š.

It feels like Joy Toy tends to put more effort into the first wave of a new series. Itās a shame that even with the animated series boost, Blacktalon is still relatively niche in my country.
Setting aside the original head sculptās ābudget paint jobā ā the kind that keeps custom painters in business ā the joint design was actually quite creative compared to other releases around the same time. At least it didnāt have those awkward āall upper body, no legsā polio-looking knees. The overall proportions were pretty solid too.
It even came with multiple hand options, and the crossbow can fully fold up and be stored in the quiver on her lower back, which is a really nice touch.
I wonder if there will be any follow-ups. Honestly, other AoS tabletop designs have even more distinctive looks. I just hope they keep the same body proportions ā otherwise, if it ends up like parts of the 40K line with all the inconsistent scaling, itāll probably fade out pretty quicklyā¦

Huge thanks to my incredibly talented friend Yu Feng for developing the LED light-up helmet and rocket launcher ā they boost the overall presence so much and feel far more fitting for a Primarch leading a legion known for siege warfare.
Honestly, it feels like Joy Toy should just give every Primarch a light-up helmet. The tech is clearly doable ā at the very least, they could leave an installation port for it š¤

The Deathshroud Terminator Champion is basically immobile, but with some heavier repainting on certain areas, he still has great presence just standing there.

Just swapped in the fabric cape from @maxbird986 and the silhouette and articulation are so much better now! Really impressed with their work this time. I did have to pierce a small hole in the left shoulder to thread the cape through the armor, but it was the only way to get that natural drape under the spaulder.
This was my first attempt at hair rooting and itās a bit roughādefinitely need more practice. I gave the face a repaint too, though Iām still not sure why JoyToy gave Cypher such distinct Middle Eastern features this time around. š¤
