Doomsday Profit: Hometown bruisers Doomsday Profit have built a reputation for intense live shows and a hefty fusion of psych, sludge, and doom to fuel their politically vitriolic screeds. Word is the band has been woodshedding a batch of new songs that bring more elements of noise rock, punk, and harder-edged psychedelic groove into the mix.
CROP: Stopping through Durham on their way to Maryland’s Knights of Doom festival, Lexington, Ky.‘s CROP delivers a scathing brew of self-loathing sludge and gallantly melodic doom — feeling at times like Pallbearer backing Buzzov*en. The band’s 2025 album S.S.R.I. (like the antidepressant drugs) earned accolades, but the live show is where the band is at its most intense.
StormToker: Kentucky’s StormToker takes a broader approach, adding synths and sax to a molten alloy of stoner metal, thrash, and irreverent hard-rock. Their latest release, December’s These Edibles Ain’t Shit, shifts readily from harsh stoner sludge to fleet-footed prog-thrash without breaking a sweat.
Weight Shift: Weight Shift, whose members split time between the Triangle and Asheville, set a high bar with their dynamic and progressive take on sludge metal that recalls everything from the lumbering post-metal juggernaut of Neurosis to the blistering hesher-sludge of High on Fire.
Doors open at 7 p.m. for this all ages metal show. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 day of show.
