i haven’t done a proper introduction so hello this is how weekendventures came to be 👹 thank you for tuning in and here’s to many more weekends ahead ✈️🚀

happy first monday of 2025 🤗 here’s how i traveled every month without quitting my job:
💰 budget: you know your finances best - the first thing you should do is allocate the amount you’re comfortable with spending on travel in a year. from there, what sort of creature comforts and destinations do you expect? if you want monthly trips to scandanavia and 5 star hotels, the budget differs a lot from someone who stays in hostels. answering these 2 questions will have you backsolve i) number of trips u can do, ii) destinations you can cover. you can save money if you book direct with local vendors too
🏖️ leave: utilise your long weekends! flights can be expensive over long weekends but if you take the day before / after off, it will be much cheaper
🤓 planning: the key things i plan ahead are things that require bookings (hotel, transport + activities for busy periods, restaurants). typically if you’re not traveling during peak holiday season, transport and activities can be booked much later. i like to include day trips in my itinerary because it helps me cover ground and takes off the stress of planning. and i get the evenings to myself so i can do what i want to do after #sgtravel #weekendtrip
in honor of labor day, let’s talk about my other form of labor (of love?). i got a dm from someone looking to pursue social media asking if it’s something that can make money. i dont think it’s as straightforward as brand deals and shopee ads. with lowball brand deals and many creators willing to do a lot for very little (or no) compensation - i think you need more than brand deals to keep the lights on for a long time. that being said, there are plenty of people who do this full time and if you plan to pursue this path, you should have a robust plan
there are so many sichuan restaurants outside of sichuan but it’s incredibly hard to find that much good chinese street food outside china 😭 would go back just for street food
booking direct, local tours (not just in china) saved me thousands of dollars the past years. while i usually like to DIY my trips, some places (esp those that require driving) are just easier done via a private tour 🫢

i’ve been contemplating whether to post this. there’s a war happening with people are dying. and here i am posting travel content. in no way am i downplaying this very real war
but i also recognise the reality is most of us in singapore will still travel for family, for work, or just because we need a break. how lucky we are that our biggest concern is a pricier flight or a cancelled trip
in no way am i fear mongering. i thought i’d share some things i’m doing differently this year and maybe useful for your travel planning too
#sgtravel
got this dm the other day and i thought it’d be interesting to hear how everyone thinks about budgeting, priorities at different stages of life(thank you for permission to share). but honestly with the elevated flight prices, i think i might just stay home this year 🫢

i’m a cruise convert if it means waking up with mickey churro waffles, endless games and shows, meeting my favourite characters and themed dinners every night
