Hue day trip, pt2 - We took a day trip around Hue and started off with a boat ride to Thien Mu pagoda, known as The Pagoda of the Celestial City. At 7 stories, it is regarded as the unofficial symbol of the city. We then were taken to several Mausoleums, Khải Định - whose buildings took 11 years to complete (longer than his actual rein) - Minh Mạng, who’s mausoleum is situated in beautiful gardens surround by lakes - and the Mausoleum of Emperor Tự Đức, which had some truly incredible structures 🏯

The Imperial City, Hue - The Imperial City (Hoàng thành) is a walled enclosure within the citadel of the city of Huế, the former imperial capital of Vietnam. Construction began in 1804, with some truly amazing buildings and structures. The moat and outer perimeter wall stretch for 2km x 2km giving the city a vast, tranquil setting. We wandered for hours marvelling at the intricacy of the details and the majesty of the many gate houses 🏯

Da Nang, Dragon Bridge - The Dragon Bridge, Cầu Rồng, crosses the Hàn River with a full span of 666m is the longest bridge in Vietnam (although we heard Ba Na Hills cable car was the longest in the world and turns out it’s not 🤔). On a Saturday & Sunday night there is a fire show, which while entertaining was short lived and pretty crowded. Very cool though, as bridges go 🐉

Golden Bridge, Ba Na Hills - A beautiful morning turned rather misty when we got to the top of Sunworld’s Ba Na Hills to see the Golden Bridge. Luckily it cleared pretty quickly and we got a good view of these quite amazing hands. Mỹ Sơn, pt1 - Constructed between the 4th and 14th Century, Mỹ Sơn was created by the kings of Champa. The temples are dedicated to the god Shiva, shown in the many carvings of their form. Mỹ Sơn was an amazingly interesting stop for us, not to mention all the spectacular ruins but with our guide giving us all the details, like how the original construction techniques are still not fully understood. From the mortar they used to the firing of the bricks, we are still at a loss to how they did what they had exactly did!

We are now experts in making spring rolls, Hội An beef and mango salad, and chilli, lime and ginger marinated fish cooked in banana leaves. Talking of which, anyone know where we can get some of these in London??🍃 We can no longer cook fish in any other way...
