My dad passed away in April after a hard-fought battle with leukemia.
He’s the reason I first got into music and graphic design. When I was little, we’d trade each other drawings of my favorite superheroes and sports figures - his way of encouraging me with art.
Growing up, we’d spend weekends traveling to other cities to shop at record stores. He’d be at each one for hours. I’d wander around looking at album covers to kill the time, popping over occasionally to measure myself against his growing tower of CDs (at last count, he owned over 15,000 of them).
He’d play his spoils on the car ride home, and eventually, the magic worked on me like it always did on him. I’d ask him about the bands he loved and those he thought I’d like. Next thing you knew, I was in line buying stacks of cheap CDs right next to him.
He spent over 40 years as a medical graphic artist and photographer, after graduating with a degree in commercial art. I thought I’d share some examples of his work, with more info about them in the comments.
He was a great dad. I’m a lucky man to have had him.
