Studio Three is a multidisciplinary design studio based in Kuala Lumpur, rooted in interior architecture and driven by a deep appreciation for design as both craft and discipline.
We are a process-led practice, placing emphasis on the development journey as much as the final outcome. Our work is shaped by context; cultural, spatial, and emotional ensuring that every project is not only visually compelling, but cohesive, meaningful, and grounded in purpose.
We do everything together, even buying coffee.
A Studio Three Work In Progress — Nora Hills is envisioned as a private estate nestled within a cultivated jungle landscape, a place where agriculture, living, and slow retreat coexist. The design approach focuses on refining what already exists rather than replacing it. The intention is to bring cohesion to the estate, allowing each function, from farming to dwelling, to feel part of a larger, considered whole. A key direction is the contrast between the ruggedness of the land and a more composed, contemporary architectural language.
Once a year, we step away from the drafting table and into reflection. The Studio Three Summit is our annual reset ; a space to confront our lessons, refine our standards, and sharpen our vision for what’s next.
We did it at the beautiful @elseretreats this year, it reminded us that while we design spaces for others, run a business, we must also design the culture we work within, one that is intentional & fulfilling.
Designed by Studio Three — The Rugsea Gallery is conceived not as a conventional showroom, but as a quiet spatial archive, a place where rugs are experienced as designed objects rather than products.
The space is intentionally restrained. Materials, lighting, and proportions are kept minimal to allow the rugs to take center stage, their textures, patterns, and craftsmanship revealed through movement, touch, and time. Each rug is given room to breathe, encouraging visitors to slow down and engage more intimately with the work
Rugsea was preparing to open their very first showroom, and we were honoured to be entrusted with this collaboration. Our role was to help translate their brand into its first architectural language, by understanding what Rugsea stands for, the philosophy that drives them, and the experience they wish to offer. From this, we synthesised a physical space that places the customer journey at its core.
This carries into the master bedroom where a black timber headboard anchors the space, and framed architectural photography adds a contemporary city hotel tone. A bedroom that feels curated like a boutique hotel suite, but lived in with the familiarity of home.
This philosophy continues into the dining area where the kitchen and dining table connect as one shared social zone. Warm timber, rattan textures and a soft neutral palette create a calm backdrop for long meals, conversations and everyday rituals. This is slow living translated into spatial behaviour, designing a home that feels intentional, present and unhurried.
A lounge that isn’t for watching, but for slowing down, breathing, talking. Designed by Studio Three for a private residence in Ampang,KL. A quiet, minimal room anchored by timber and understated styling, made to encourage slow living in the home.
Our collaboration with Rugsea began a few years ago with a design installation that celebrated their craft and bespoke sensibility. We proposed an art gallery concept built around the theme “things that bring us happiness.”
We invited the public to share what brings them joy, and received some heartfelt responses: “breakfast with my dad,” “the morning light,” and many others. From these, we selected five moments to translate into art. Each piece was illustrated by Studio Three, then hand-crafted into miniature rugs by Rugsea.
Each rug was framed on the wall, accompanied by a short written description and a poem capturing the emotion behind it. A wonderful collaboration, one that reminded us how design can connect deeply with human sentiment.
We loved how it turned out, we decided to keep one for the Studio :)

Developing designs often begins with exploring forms, shapes, and collages ; a way of testing where the process might lead. By trusting the process, you allow freedom in design, creating space for outcomes to emerge naturally rather than forcing a fixed end result — Here’s a glimpse of one of our sketches from an ongoing retail design we’re currently exploring.
