In 2003, Covenant founders Jeff Morgan and Leslie Rudd tasted an Israeli wine that inspired them to bring a new California perspective to a 3500-year-old winemaking tradition. What started as a 500-case Napa Cabernet project has now grown more than ten-fold. Today, Covenant’s 9,000-square-foot urban winery is situated in Berkeley, California, also home to other urban wineries.

What a beautiful morning for a ribbon cutting! Today we celebrated the grand opening of @paraisoplantstudio new location on Fourth Street, just a few doors down from their previous location. 182 members of the community invested in them and raised over $200,000 to expand the business, showing that together we are stronger. We are so lucky to have this women-owned, LGBTQ+-owned, and Latino-owned business in our city. Stop in and say hi this weekend!
Thank you @fluxverticaltheatre for hosting our latest Founders Tour & Talk last night! Founders @le4hm4rie and @kirstenmzk built out their space from scratch and now offer classes, shows, event rental space, and more. They are building a community of artists and entertainers and Berkeley is lucky to have them. Don’t miss their upcoming Nutcracker Nightmare Fantasy production opening on 11/29. The @we.berkeley (a subgroup of the @berkeleychamber ) continued its Meet the Founders tour series yesterday at @fluxverticaltheatre , a #womanowned business that is part exercise studio, part #dance company, and part performance space. The two founders, @le4hm4rie and Kirsten Gerding, built out the space and academy program post-pandemic because “artists were suffering”, and they knew they needed their own space for their community of pole dancing, burlesque, chair dance, ballet, twerk, and other dance afficionados (and beginners alike). They offer a range of classes, shows (like the upcoming Nutcracker Nightmare Fantasy) and a safe space for dance teachers and students to practice their art. #Berkeley’s women entrepreneurs were inspired by the many hats Kirsten and Leah Marie wear— combining their artistic talents with business acumen.
