This song is about how the pharmaceutical industry preys on the lonely and the downtrodden. We wanted to write words of kindness for anyone struggling with addiction in any forms, and be an affirming loving voice. If nobody else cares, we do genuinely. Addiction does not make you a failure, and you are more than your circumstances.

On February 10 2021, Winter Storm Uri tore through the state of Texas, dumping several inches of snow, covering the streets in ice, and leaving thousands of denizens without power for days in below-freezing temperatures. Despite having been warned about the severity of the storm well ahead of time, owners of the privatized power grid decided that weather-proofing wasn’t in their best interest. 246 human deaths were recorded across 77 Texas counties, but the actual number is estimated to be closer to 900 due to the deaths of the houseless members of our community. This song was written to honor their memory and to protest against the greed that claimed their lives.

Stokley Carmichael (also known as) Kwame Ture was an American activist who played a major role in the civil rights movement in the United States and the global pan-African movement. He’s widely known for popularizing the phrase ‘Black Power’ during the 60’s. Kwame was one of the first Black Americans to advocate for Black self determination while also challenging the ideals of nonviolence and integration.

During this time of great change and upheaval of the current social paradigm, it’s been put on my heart to share the words of our ancestors who’ve fought the same battle we still continue to fight. Lowkey pissed as f*ck that we’re still fighting the same battles but f*ck it we ball. It disgusts me to see the rotting corpse of america trying to keep itself alive yet I’m grateful for the disillusionment of the world at large. I don’t know if the war on white supremacy is able to be won but I’ll do everything in my power to sever it from my own consciousness and the people who choose to engage with me.
