400 Meter Runner
Acrylic and Ink on canvas

Somewhere between control and collapse this is where the body tells the truth.
The 400 isn’t just a race, it’s a negotiation with limits… lungs burning, legs unraveling, time stretching and compressing all at once.
I wanted this drawing to sit inside that moment where structure breaks into gesture, where the line stops describing and starts becoming the body itself. The marks chase each other, trip, repeat, resist… like breath, like stride, like thought under pressure.
Black holds it down. White tries to escape.
Everything in between is the human condition.

What a great semester with this classes of workers…this class was always in full attendance 🙏 here’s a glimpse of selected works from the semester starting with their very first drawing and on ward through learning how to use materials to get to the next level from structure to building forum and sound drawings…oh and we had fun getting there!

I met Jacob Lawrence #jacoblawrence (1993) one day after he gave a lecture at the High Museum of Art…I was in college at the Atlanta College of Art in my 2nd year…and he was on tour with his Migration Series exhibition! My goal was to just have 20seconds with him I need to tell him that @jamesdaviscampbell my art high school professor gave me a book about his work and that changed the way I thought about art making and as a printmaker I think about how I feel like his work! @watson33569 captured this moment of me in action teaching a printmaking workshop. We have to keep using our hands and make things
