🌟💙 What an incredible morning at our Annual State of Our Schools Breakfast! Superintendent Cheryl Cotton welcomed a vibrant room filled with board members, district staff, city leaders, students, and community partners—all coming together to celebrate the wonderful achievements of the district. Over a delicious breakfast, guests connected, shared stories, and reflected on the amazing work happening across our district, from our increasing ELA and math scores to the powerful achievements of our students and staff. The energy in the room soared with inspiring performances from our talented choir, band, and robotics teams, showcasing the creativity and brilliance of our students. We closed the celebration on a high note by honoring six outstanding community members as our 2025–2026 Partners of the Year. They are true champions for our students and schools! Students in grades 8–12 across West Contra Costa Unified School District are invited to take part in a 21-day trip to China through the Global Ambassador Program, an unforgettable experience focused on cultural exchange, global learning, and personal growth. Led by West County Mandarin School teachers and staff in partnership with Contra Costa College, students will explore multiple cities, visit historic landmarks like the Great Wall, connect with students in China, and gain real-world travel skills, all while earning high school and college credit. 🎉 On March 6, we celebrated the 39th Annual “You Make a Difference” Awards Ceremony at Lovonya DeJean Middle School, bringing together families, staff, and community members for a joyful evening of recognition and celebration. Hosted by our Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for Special Education, the event honored outstanding students, families, educators, staff, and community members who go above and beyond in support of students with special needs. Each honoree reflected the compassion, dedication, and commitment that help our students thrive. County Supervisor John M. Gioia joined us in celebrating this year’s honorees and their impact across our school communities. The evening highlighted stories of care, advocacy, and connection, reminding us that it takes a community working together to support every student’s success. Our Pinole Middle School band students represented WCCUSD at the Music in the Parks Festival on April 18! They traveled to Santa Teresa High School in San Jose, where they performed Aftershock by Larry Clark and From the Start by Laufey. In their first-ever competition, they earned 4th place in the middle school division and received “Excellent” ratings in rhythm, technique, and musicality. We’re especially proud of the sportsmanship they showed throughout the day. Students wrapped up the experience with some fun at California’s Great America and an afternoon awards ceremony. Congratulations to our Pinole Middle School band students on an outstanding performance! 🎉 #PinoleMiddleSchool #WCCUSD ¡Los estudiantes de la banda de Pinole Middle School representaron a WCCUSD en el Festival Music in the Parks el 18 de abril! Viajaron a Santa Teresa High School en San José, donde interpretaron Aftershock de Larry Clark y From the Start de Laufey. En su primera competencia, obtuvieron el 4.º lugar en la división de escuela intermedia y recibieron calificaciones de “Excelente” en ritmo, técnica y musicalidad. Nos sentimos especialmente orgullosos del espíritu deportivo que demostraron durante todo el día. Family Math Night at Collins Elementary brought learning to life in the best way! Students and families joined us for an evening of interactive games and puzzles through our partnership with the Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival. Together, they explored math concepts in a fun, hands-on way while building confidence and problem-solving skills. Each student left with activities to keep the learning going at home, and families enjoyed time to connect and share a meal together. It was a meaningful night that highlighted the joy of learning as a community. #FamilyMathNight #WCCUSD ¡La Noche de Matemáticas en Familia en la Primaria Collins dio vida al aprendizaje de la mejor manera!
