Bauhaus Brew Labs announced Thursday it will close this summer after more than a decade as a staple of the northeast Minneapolis beer scene. The announcement comes a day before the start of Art-A-Whirl and Bauhaus' contemporaneous celebration, the Liquid Zoo. It's one of the busiest weekends of the year for breweries across Nordeast. The brewery said it intends to keep its taproom open through the end of June, with June 26-28 serving as a joint party for the 12th anniversary and closure. Bauhaus opened in an industrial area near Broadway Street and Central Avenue in July 2014. Their spate of German beers, connected indoor and outdoor space, raucous events and popular food trucks regularly drew impressive crowds.

Friday morning, the GOP House Caucus called on Governor Tim Walz to condemn a statement they claim Representative Aisha Gomez allegedly made towards Representative Elliot Engen last night. In a video posted to x- by Representative Drew Roach, Roach claims Gomez told Engen to kill himself after the failed gun reform vote on the house floor. A statement released this morning by GOP Representative Harry Niska says, “After the horrible tragedies we’ve had in Minnesota over the last year, it is sickening that an elected official would think it’s acceptable to say the things we heard tonight. We had just heard hours of debate and heartbreaking stories of loss and violence. To respond to that with threats and hate is unconscionable and unacceptable.” Now, Representative Aisha Gomez is responding and says that is not what she said. In a statement she says in part, “Despite claims from Republicans, multiple videos show I clearly say ‘think of them, not yourself, how about that?’ At no point did I say what the right wing media would have you believe was said.”
