Before Script to Series comes Concept to Script. You’ve met our four creative teams, now it’s time to introduce the internationally renowned mentors helping shape their story.
Across the next phase of WBD Access x Youku’s Script to Series, each team will work closely with dedicated writing and directing mentors to further develop their concepts into a comprehensive series bible, a pilot script, and a five-minute proof of concept film ahead of Pitch Day.
This is where expert mentorship takes creative ambition to the next level.

We are proud to announce the 2026 Warner Bros. Discovery Access Writers Program Cohort.
The program provided a pathway for writers seeking to enhance their skills in the episodic television writing space, learn about the business of television from executives and industry guests, and attend a master class on storytelling and collaborative creative writing.

From the programme… to the production 🎬✨
After taking part in last year’s WBD Access x Waterloo Road Directors Programme and shadowing on the production, one of our alumni, Bethany Rowland, has now progressed into directing on Waterloo Road.
This journey reflects exactly what the programme is designed to do - create meaningful pathways for emerging directors to gain hands-on experience and transition into key creative roles.
We’re incredibly proud to see Bethany take this next step and look forward to following her continued work on the series.

If you’re here, you’re joining us at the start of a brand-new programme: WBD Access x Youku’s Script to Series.
And what better way to begin than by introducing the four creative teams selected for the inaugural edition.
Launching for the first time in Asia Pacific, this six-month development programme brings together four teams of three creatives (each made up of a writer, producer and director) with the potential to develop their original stories into a Chinese-language series for an international audience.
Phase 1 is now complete 🎬
Over the past few weeks, the teams have taken part in an intensive series of in-person and virtual workshops focused on story development, character building, episodic structure, and directing craft.
Now, the next chapter begins...
Across the coming months, the teams will work closely with industry mentors to further develop their series bibles, pilot scripts, and proof of concept films ahead of the final Pitch Day.
One project will ultimately be selected to potentially move into formal development.

Two days ago, at the iconic @seriesmaniaforum , we launched Script Engine in collaboration with @seriesmaniainstitute and in partnership with HBO Max.
A programme designed to support mid-level screenwriters developing bold, locally rooted stories across selected countries in Europe.
Hosted by Pierre Ziemniak, Director of Programs at Series Mania Institute, the session featured a Q&A with Azariah Jade, Inclusion Pipeline Programme Manager at Warner Bros. Discovery, sharing more about the programme and what writers can expect.
We were then joined by Dirk Engelhardt, Elettra Gaia Federico Canovi, and Clémentine Bobin from HBO Max Germany, Italy and France, who shared why this programme matters for their regions.
✨ Building on the success of the first edition, Script Engine returns as an evolved next chapter - now focused on writers with a connection France, Spain, Italy & Germany, who can develop original locally rooted stories for one (or more!) of those European countries.
