very special veggie themed birthday this past weekend! ₊˚ʚ 🥬🥦🥕🌶️₊˚✧ ﾟ. highlights included an incredible bob & larry cake, pebersvend (danish tradition of pelting unmarried 30 year olds with pepper), lucky 7 vegetable birthday soup (七样菜) with fun vegetables from chinatown, analog ddr courtesy my friend's 9 year old son, a 'what veggie are you' quiz, & of course the (hard-fought) veggie strap on! 🍆🍆🍆 yay friendship yay 30!!

30 years old today 😌 Marked the occasion with a trip to my father's home in Ghana for a celebration of life of my late uncle Mensah. So meaningful to see everyone holding joy and grief together at the ceremony (two nine-hour days in 105 degree weather of dancing, singing, preaching and grieving), to hear our family’s stories of strength and resilience, & to learn more about Ghana’s decolonial socialist past. Our language twi has a word sankofa, "to fetch what is at risk of being left behind" & to gather our histories as we face the future. In this moment of transition i feel so blessed to have such a deep & meaningful history to tap into & a family I can share it with. medaase paa to all those i met & hello to a new decade!!
